If you're gearing up for the big game this weekend and hosting a watch party, you'll definitely need plenty of snacks to keep your guests satisfied. Don't worry, we've got a whole bunch of ideas to help you out.
Wings
There are plenty of ways to prepare wings. You could go the sous vide route, cooking them in duck fat before shallow frying, or opt for steaming and broiling (using either an Instant Pot or a steam basket on the stove). Both techniques create incredibly juicy meat with crisp, golden skin, and both allow you to do most of the work ahead of time. For sauce, it’s hard to beat the classic combo of butter and Frank’s, though if you’re feeling adventurous, a chicken Caesar wing is an excellent option, especially if you’re planning to grill.
Food Boards
You don’t need to go all out with a full snack stadium, but a large board of easy-to-grab snacks will definitely please the crowd. You can assemble a fantastic cheese board (add a melty soft cheese to make it extra special) or go for something more pickle-heavy with a veggie-focused vesper board (try roasting your pickled vegetables for even more depth of flavor). Beyond fancy meats, you can elevate your charcuterie with a spicy nduja-like spread, homemade chicken liver mousse, or a hearty sous-vide terrine. (If you’re worried about your masculinity while eating terrine during the game, well, I don’t have the answers for you.)
Onion Dip
There are many great dips, but onion dip is in a league of its own and, unlike Brady, it’s universally loved. I enjoy a caramelized onion dip and a green onion dip, both of which use sour cream as their base, but this smoky tahini-based dip made with charred onions will blow away even the most discerning onion dip experts. (You can make it with any charred vegetable, but I’d start with onion, which is the best vegetable.)
Cheese in All Its Forms
Cheese balls are both delicious and charming, and they’re incredibly versatile. Not only can you adjust the flavor to your liking, but you can even change the shape to match the game’s action (you know, the one where men chase after a ball in tight shorts). If you want to be extra playful, try making mini cheese balls and sticking pretzel rods into them. For a fancier option, make fromage fort, a rich mix of cheeses, wine, garlic, and butter. Serve it cold with crudités, or spread it on toast points and broil. If you’re in the mood for a cheesy, gooey dish, we’ve got four different ways to make a melty cheese bowl, including a vegan version and even a method for turning any cheese—yes, even the firmer ones—into a decadent liquid gold.
Other Fun Ideas
The suggestions above should easily feed a hungry group, but if you’re looking for more options, consider adding a cast iron pizza, a large bowl of blistered shishito peppers, some super spicy guacamole, and nachos made with Doritos. It might be a bit unconventional, but a big casserole can also be a great way to serve a crowd. We have a Super Bowl casserole that’s sure to be a hit, but both the cookout casserole and the cheese plate casserole will also do the trick.
