Photo by Victor ProtasioThese Philly cheesesteak-inspired sandwiches are not only incredibly tasty, but they’re also easy to prepare using a smart sheet pan method. Start by marinating steak in a savory blend, then roast it alongside onions and peppers. After that, assemble everything in a baguette with cheese, and broil until golden and crispy. Don’t forget to let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing, which will make the meat more tender and juicy.
Ingredients List
-
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
-
1.5 tablespoons olive oil
-
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
-
0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
-
0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
-
1 pound boneless rib-eye steak
-
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
-
¾ cup thinly sliced yellow onion (from 1 onion)
-
1 8-oz. baguette
-
6 ounces sliced Provolone cheese
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 475°F and position a rimmed baking sheet in the middle of the oven.
-
In a shallow dish, combine Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Add the steak to the dish and turn it to coat evenly. Place the steak in the center of the hot baking sheet. Add bell pepper and onion to the remaining marinade and stir gently to coat. Arrange the bell pepper and onion around the steak in a single layer.
-
Roast in the oven until the steak reaches 135°F in the center for medium-rare, and the vegetables are tender, about 15 to 16 minutes. Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5 minutes. Put the bell pepper and onion into a bowl. Thinly slice the steak against the grain and mix it with the bell pepper and onion.
-
Increase the oven temperature to broil. Line the baking sheet with foil. Cut the baguette lengthwise, being careful not to slice all the way through. Lay half of the cheese slices on the cut sides of the bread, then spoon the steak mixture over the cheese. Top with the remaining cheese slices. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese melts and the edges of the bread are toasted. Cut into 4 portions.
