Chocolate chip cookies can transform even the dullest day into something special. Whether you prefer them crisp, chewy, crunchy, or soft, we can all agree that chocolate is essential. Most recipes suggest a balanced amount of chips, but wouldn’t more be better? Instead of loading up on regular-sized chips, which could mess with the dough’s structure, try adding a sprinkle of mini chips.
I always keep a backup of cookie dough in my freezer (naturally), and as I was replenishing my stash, I ran out of my usual chips. Rather than braving the cold New York winter, I threw in the last of my mini chocolate chips. Not only did the cookies look irresistibly tempting, but each bite was perfectly packed with chocolate, and I managed to add even more chocolate overall.
There’s a limit to how many chocolate chunks and chips the dough can handle before it starts falling apart or becoming flat. By incorporating mini chocolate chips or even chocolate shavings along with your usual chunks, you get the best of both worlds. The mini chips stay hidden in the dough, keeping the cookie’s height intact, while the chunks offer huge, indulgent bites of molten chocolate.
The simplest way to create a super chocolatey chip cookie is to follow your favorite recipe, adding the recommended amount of chunks or morsels, plus up to a cup of mini chocolate chips. For some, that might seem like a lot (or perhaps not enough), but a heaping cup is my go-to. Stir everything together until it’s well mixed, then bake as usual. You’ll end up with the most chocolate-packed cookie you’ve ever tasted.
