Dipping chips into a tub of dip is a straightforward task. No need for extra tools or plates—the chips themselves serve as the perfect delivery vehicle for your dip, which is already conveniently in its own bowl. Aside from a napkin to wipe greasy fingers, all you need is a bag of chips and a tub of dip—until you reach the bottom, that is.
The bottom of a chip bag is often a disappointing place. The remaining crumbs are typically too small to dip, but discarding them feels wasteful. (They do make excellent toppings for baked macaroni and cheese, however.) Thankfully, there’s a clever, albeit slightly silly, way to finish off the last of the chips and dip without getting your fingers dirty. The secret? A spoon.
This clever trick comes from one of my favorite TikTok creators, @oldscoolkevmo, a sorority house chef who’s serious about snacking. Rather than trying to dip broken chips, Kevin places the remaining fried bits in a bowl, scoops up some dip with the back of his spoon, and presses the dip into the chips. The dip sticks to the chips, making it easy to finish the last bit of both without the mess.
This method works with potato chips and onion dip, pita chips with hummus, and tortilla chips paired with guacamole or bean dip. I bet it could also work with cookies or graham crackers alongside mascarpone cheese, cream cheese, or this cannoli cream. If you can manage to get it to stick to the back of a spoon, you can use it to scoop up chip crumbs, so feel free to experiment and get creative. Personally, I find that smoking a bowl helps with creative inspiration, especially when it comes to snacking.
