I absolutely adore Aidells sausages, especially the Chicken & Apple and Roasted Garlic & Gruyere Cheese varieties. They’re hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a quick cook in the air fryer until the casings are bursting with delicious juices. However, I seldom consume more than two a week, which is unfortunate because once the vacuum-sealed package is opened, you have roughly four days before they start to lose their freshness. (The package suggests this, though I’ve stretched it to a week).
However, last night I stumbled upon a technique to retrieve a single sausage without exposing the rest to air and triggering the freshness countdown. After finally hitting a 200-pound deadlift for the first time since my ankle injury, I was still ravenous post-dinner. Craving a high-protein snack, I recalled an unopened pack of Aidells. I grabbed scissors and snipped between two sausages, expecting the vacuum seal to break and release them. Surprisingly, it didn’t.
The vacuum seal between each link was so robust that it remained intact even after separation. Initially frustrating, as I was eager to devour my sausage, this actually provided a solution: I no longer need to freeze the remaining sausages after enjoying a couple. Now, I can simply cut off one or two at a time, leaving the rest in the fridge until I’m ready to eat them or their expiration date approaches.
While this tip is only useful if you enjoy sausages packaged in this specific manner, if I can assist even one more Chicken & Apple sausage enthusiast, my goal will be achieved. Simply make a precise cut between the links, favoring the sausage you plan to consume. Return the remaining package to the fridge to savor at your convenience.
