I’ve been reveling in my birthday since Sunday, and let’s just say it’s involved quite a bit of indulging. From margaritas in Mississippi to a Viuex Carré at Carousel Bar and a superb grasshopper in Portland. Now, in true Leo style, I’m inviting you to join in the continued celebration with a few of my personal favorite things.
You don’t have to drink what I’m having to join in the fun, but you probably should. This drink—let’s call it “My Favorite Things”—is like a white Negroni, except it’s made with aquavit in place of gin. The combination of bittersweet, grassy gentian flavors, with hints of caraway and dill, makes for a complex taste. Like the irresistible Dorito, no single flavor overstays its welcome. It’s also pretty potent, perfect for celebration, and it’s yellow—perfectly complementing my wardrobe. Here’s how to make it:
1 1/2 ounces aquavit
3/4 ounce Avèze
3/4 ounce dry vermouth
Add all ingredients to a glass filled with ice and stir for at least 60 turns until fully chilled and diluted. Strain into a coupe, and if you’re feeling generous, raise a glass in my honor.
