Wondering how to bake classic chocolate chip cookies without relying on a pre-packaged mix? Just follow this easy-to-follow recipe—you’ll never go wrong. For optimal results, be sure to let the butter come to room temperature before adding it to the dough.
Ingredients Needed
-
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
-
1 teaspoon kosher salt
-
½ teaspoon baking soda
-
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
-
1 ¼ cups packed light brown sugar
-
¼ cup granulated sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
-
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (12 ounces)
-
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, roughly chopped (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda until well combined.
Using an electric mixer, beat the butter and both sugars on medium-high speed for about 2 to 3 minutes, until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, followed by the vanilla. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined (avoid overmixing). Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) by hand.
Scoop out generous tablespoonfuls of the dough and place them on baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each scoop.
Bake, rotating the baking sheets halfway through, until the edges are golden brown and the centers remain soft, about 12 to 15 minutes.
Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
