Some ideas don't immediately receive the appreciation they deserve. Copernicus’ heliocentric solar system model in the 1500s was one such case, and similarly, today we have this clever burrito hack, shared by Reddit user shananies.
When eating a burrito, you face a dilemma: hold it throughout to maintain its structure, or place it on a plate where the fillings spill out, the tortilla unravels (if you made the mistake of removing the foil), and regret follows. Shananies suggests a third option—place the burrito in a snug mug, applying gentle pressure to keep the fillings upright. Naturally, there were skeptics.

Don’t drink it. Like some kind of amateur. While I agree that sipping your burrito isn’t the best idea, I have to admit I don’t fully support this anti-mug stance. As a busy woman, I don’t always have the luxury of uninterrupted time to enjoy my burrito, and I think it’s perfectly fine to let your hand rest. (I’d bet that 6footseven, Deletrious26, and Stephwash haven’t had the experience of eating while parenting. I haven’t either, but it seems like finishing a burrito without interruptions would be a challenge.)
Also, as Virginia noted in Slack, it’s about digestion and hygiene: “Burritos are one of those foods so messy to handle that I end up eating them too quickly and feeling sick, because putting them down, reassembling, and picking them back up is just too much of a hassle.” Well said.
To try this technique, I ordered a breakfast burrito—even though it was past noon, because I’m not one to follow society’s rules—carefully unwrapped a bit of foil, took a few bites, and then placed it in the mug. I then attended to some urgent matters, sent a tweet about the absence of sour cream in the burrito, and fed my cat her lunch to keep her away from mine. The burrito stayed in place, with the fillings exactly where they should be, the whole time.
Naturally, once you eat enough of the burrito, it reaches the height of the mug, but that’s fine. At this point, the burrito’s center of gravity has shifted enough for it to stand on its own, meaning the mug is no longer necessary. Thank it for its service, return it to the cabinet, and finish your burrito.
