We are living in a new era of edibles. Even if you don't reside in a fully legalized state with a high-end dispensary, there are plenty of recipes and resources to help you create or enjoy edibles that taste more like food and less like weed. This is great because food that tastes good is more enjoyable, but it’s also a bit risky because it's easier to consume too much.
If you've ever eaten too many edibles, you know it can be quite unpleasant. Unlike smoking, the effects of an edible take time to set in, but when they do, they hit hard. That's why it's important to only consume a small amount at first and wait at least an hour before taking more, whether it's through eating or smoking. A particularly tempting edible can be especially tricky if you're prone to snacking or overestimating your tolerance. This is why you should always—*always*—have a cannabis-free alternative to your edible handy.
For instance, if you're enjoying a gummy, stock up on a few bags of your favorite Haribo (yes, a few; having extra gummy bears is never a bad thing). If you're indulging in chocolate, consider getting some high-quality chocolate bars. I’ve even seen weed-infused Cheez-Its, and I can’t imagine a worse scenario than being high and finding the only Cheez-Its available are cannabis-infused.
Even if you don't usually get the munchies and are sure you can resist temptation, grab the dupe anyway. Even if you don’t end up eating it, it will help keep you from fixating on the forbidden snack, which is great since obsessive thoughts while high are never enjoyable. (Though, let’s be real: you’re probably going to eat it.)
