I rarely suggest products or write reviews. Apart from widely-used gadgets like the air fryer and Instant Pot, I aim to keep my recipes versatile, not relying on specific tools. My kitchen is filled with hand-me-downs, thrift store finds, or items from the restaurant supply store, often bought on a whim without much thought.
For some reason, I often avoid upgrading to things that could simplify my life—especially if I already own a less effective version. I’ve despised my old measuring spoons for years, yet I never replaced them with better ones that could make cooking more enjoyable and efficient.
But that changes now.
All the measuring spoons in my drawer are wide and round, which works fine until I need to measure spices from small jars. Their size makes it impossible to fit inside, forcing me to use a smaller spoon and often resulting in spills. It’s incredibly frustrating—well, relatively speaking, but frustrating all the same.
However, I’ve now ordered a set of slim, oblong measuring spoons. They should arrive by the time this blog is published, if not shortly after. I’m thrilled for my future self and a bit envious of her new spoons, which will effortlessly fit into any spice jar, no matter its size. Soon enough, I’ll be that future self.
If your kitchen relies on round measuring spoons, I strongly suggest adding or switching to oblong ones. They’re easy to find—Amazon offers plenty, as do Bed Bath & Beyond, Williams-Sonoma, and King Arthur Baking (including the ones shown above). For just $10–$20, they’re a worthwhile investment for hassle-free, accurate spice measurements.
