While I excel at preparing meals, I struggle with eating them properly. My ideal way of enjoying food is through snacking, or what I like to call 'indulgent grazing.' I enjoy arranging a selection of small delights, each offering unique flavors and textures to create what my friend Catie refers to as 'mouth adventures.' This delightful fruit snack has become my newest favorite mouth adventure.
Last night, I indulged in a lavish grazing session. I began with some chips, then sampled feta and caper-marinated chicken (for work), assembled a small cheese plate featuring MSG pickles, enjoyed a doughnut, prepared and devoured two slices of toast (one garlic and one cinnamon sugar), and ended the night by consuming an excessive amount of Cuties brand clementines. As I ate the fruit, my eyes wandered to the cinnamon sugar I had used earlier for my toast.
“Should I give it a try?” I wondered.
I tried it, and it was absolutely worth it. Coating a slice of clementine (or any tangy-sweet citrus fruit) in cinnamon sugar is an experience everyone should have. The flavor is reminiscent of candy, the festive joy of Christmas, and all the delightful aspects of winter without any of its drawbacks. It’s vibrant and juicy, sweet yet tangy, and exudes warmth and comfort—a delightful little fruit snack that I can’t get enough of. (Think of it as dusting your wets, but with fruit.)
My favorite approach is peeling the fruit, removing the tougher white fibers, and dipping each segment into a bowl of cinnamon sugar, following Jennifer Garner’s ratio of 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar to 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Alternatively, you can peel and slice the clementines with a knife (to remove more pith) or even supreme them, arranging the slices elegantly on a plate before sprinkling the aromatic mixture over the top. Honestly, the method doesn’t matter—just get these little gems into your mouth as soon as possible; they truly embody the best of winter.
