Essentially, Lan Yan's main function is to generate shields using her elemental skill. When using her E ability, she charges toward enemies, creating the Phoenix Shield with Anemo attributes, with its thickness based on her attack power. She then launches the Crescent Moon Spear, dealing damage. When activated, the Phoenix Shield 'adapts' and automatically shifts to the element it touches thanks to her talent, Fourfold Wind Blade Spirit, enhancing its damage absorption and increasing the Crescent Moon Spear's damage by 50%.
The shield created by Lan Yan is incredibly thick, and you can rely on its protective capabilities. At Constellation 3 (Elemental Skill level 13), the shield she generates is nearly 600% of her attack + 3178, easily surpassing 20k when fully built for attack.
