Conceal text, images, and more with Discord’s spoiler tags
Ever noticed others hiding text, images, or links with spoiler tags on Discord, but weren't sure how to do it? This guide is for you! In this article, we’ll explore several ways to hide content on Discord, whether you're on a computer or a mobile device. Keep reading for all the details!
How to Mark Messages as Spoilers on Discord
To hide text or links, just place two vertical bars on each side (i.e. ||text||) or highlight the text and click the eye icon from the context menu. For images, simply click the eye icon after uploading it to your message.
Steps
How to Spoiler Text Using Markdown

Simply type something in Discord. You can use Markdown to hide your text as a spoiler on Discord. Markdown is a lightweight text formatting system integrated into Discord to help you style your messages.

Wrap the text you want to hide with || symbols. Anything between these marks will be concealed with a black overlay, and viewers must click to reveal it.
- Example: ||Spoiler alert!||
How to Spoiler Text Using the Eye Icon

Just type something in Discord. Discord now offers text formatting options through buttons that appear once you highlight the text you're working with.

Select the text you want to hide as a spoiler. This can be the entire message or just a portion of it that you want to conceal.

Click on the eye icon in the formatting menu. After highlighting the text in your message, a menu with formatting options will appear. To spoiler your text, simply click on the eye icon button.
How to Spoiler Images

Insert an image into your Discord message. You can upload the image or simply copy and paste it into the message box.

Tap the eye icon. In the image preview, you’ll find the eye icon in the top-right corner.
- The image will not appear as a spoiler in the preview, but it will be hidden when you send the message.
- On mobile devices, long press the image and select Mark as spoiler to apply the spoiler tag to the image.
How to Spoiler Links with Markdown

Paste a link into your Discord message. Just like with text, you can use Markdown to spoiler a link too.

Place || on both sides of the link you want to hide. When you send the message, the link will be covered by a black overlay, just like spoilered text. The link preview will also be blurred out, similar to how images are spoilered.
- Example: ||https://www.google.com||
How to Spoiler Links by Removing Embeds

Paste a link into your Discord message. If you don't need to spoiler the text of the link but want to prevent the preview from revealing the link's content, you can remove the embed before sending it.

Wrap your link with < >. By enclosing your link in these brackets on Discord, you'll remove the embedded preview. The link will remain visible and clickable, but there won’t be any image preview showing what the link leads to.
- Example: <https://www.google.com>
