Are you worried that a friend might have blocked you on Discord? Even though Discord won’t notify you directly, there are several easy methods to figure out if someone has blocked you. You can even determine if you’ve been blocked without sending any direct messages! Steps
Reply to one of their messages
You won’t be able to reply to their messages if they’ve blocked you. You can even try to respond in a text or voice channel, not just in a direct message (though direct messages also work). Just right-click or hold down any of their messages and select an emoji.
- If the screen shakes and/or your reply doesn’t appear, it means you’ve been blocked. On your phone, you might see a 'Reaction Blocked' notification.
- You may also be unable to reply if you don’t have permission to interact with that channel. If you can respond to everyone else’s messages except theirs, they’ve blocked you.
Check your friends list
If the person is no longer in your friends list, they may have blocked you. When someone blocks you on Discord, both of you are removed from each other's friends list. So, if suddenly you're no longer friends with someone, it's likely they've blocked you. However, it could also mean they've simply unfriended you, so don’t panic just yet!
Try sending a friend request
If you try to add someone who has blocked you on Discord, you'll receive an error message. Try clicking or tapping the Send Friend Request button on their profile and see what happens.
- If you've been blocked, you’ll see a message like "Hm, didn't work. Double check that the capitalization, spelling, any spaces, and numbers are correct".
- If you haven’t been blocked, your friend request will be sent normally, or you might see a message saying "(username) is not accepting friend requests".
- The "not accepting friend requests" message appears when someone has disabled friend requests (or only accepts requests from friends and/or server members).
Send a direct message
Send a short direct message to the person you suspect has blocked you. If you receive the error message "Your message could not be delivered", it may mean that you have been blocked. However, it’s also possible that you and this person are not on the same server, or that they only accept messages from their friends list.
- If you send a direct message from a computer, the error message will come from the Clyde bot.
- If you send a direct message from Android or iPhone, you’ll receive the same error, but it will appear in the Error window instead of coming from Clyde bot.
Check their profile
Click on their username in the server to view their profile. If the "About me" section suddenly becomes empty and the social media links are gone, it could be a sign that they have blocked you. However, it could also mean that they’ve deleted all information from their profile!
- Ask a mutual friend to check their profile. If your friend can still see the content, but you can’t, that means you’ve likely been blocked.
Advice
- Even if someone has blocked you, you can still see their online status if you leave the direct message window open. If they’re offline, it doesn’t mean they’ve blocked you.
- If someone who blocked you used to be your friend, they will be removed from your friend list (and vice versa).
- Do not create a new account to message someone who has blocked you. Discord considers this harassment and a violation of its community guidelines.
