Whether you're concerned about security or simply tired of the generic name of your WiFi hotspot, renaming your WiFi network in your iPhone settings is a breeze. You can also change the name of your home WiFi network, known as the SSID, directly from your phone. This article will walk you through a few easy methods to customize your WiFi name using your iPhone.
Steps
Renaming Your Personal Hotspot

Select About (About) from the menu. This option is located at the top of the list. Tap to open a screen displaying various details about your phone, including its name.

Tap on Name (Name) at the top of the list. This action opens a new screen displaying the current name of your iPhone, which is also the name shown in the WiFi network list on other devices.

- When setting up your phone initially, you might see a default name like 'Nam's iPhone' or simply 'iPhone'. Choose a unique name that makes it easy to identify, such as 'Broken WiFi' or 'Tiny WiFi'.
- After a moment, the new name will appear in the WiFi network list on other devices. You might still see the old name temporarily, but you won't be able to connect using it.

- Your password must be at least 8 characters long and follow ASCII standards. This includes all letters and numbers on an English keyboard, as well as certain punctuation marks.
- If you don't want your hotspot to be visible to those who aren't logged into your iCloud account, turn off Allow Others to Join in the mobile settings. You'll find this option above Wi-Fi Password when you open the Personal Hotspot menu.
Update the name of your WiFi router on your phone

- If you're currently connected to multiple WiFi networks, ensure you're logged into the correct one on your phone. Tap the name of the network you want to access from the list of available networks, and enter the current password if prompted.

the router's IP address. Scroll down until you find the router's IP address. You'll see multiple IP addresses, and you need to locate the one next to Router under the IPV4 Address section. Once you've found the correct IP address, tap and hold until the option appears. Tap it to copy the address.
- The router's IP address is typically a sequence of four numbers, with 1-3 digits in each part, separated by dots. For example, you might see something like 123.456.1.1.

Open a web browser and paste the IP address. You can use any browser on your phone. Paste or type the IP address into the address bar without adding http:// or any other characters before it.

Enter the ID and password printed on the router. After accessing the router's web page, you'll be prompted to enter login credentials. If you don't know the router's username or password, you can usually find this information on a label attached to the router.
- In many cases, the default username for the router is 'Admin'. However, it's best to check the label on the router for accurate details.

Follow the instructions on the router's web page to change the network name. Depending on your internet provider and router manufacturer, you'll see different options after logging in. If you don't immediately see the option to rename your WiFi network, look for a tab or link labeled Wireless, Modify your Wi-Fi settings, or something similar. Click the link and follow the prompts to set a new network name.
- Here, you can also update your Wi-Fi password. Hackers can easily access your network if you keep the default password settings.
- Choose a unique network name that doesn't reveal personal information. For example, combine meaningful words, the title of a favorite book or movie, or a quirky phrase (like 'Promised Land' or 'Beloved WiFi').

Use the AirPort Utility app if you have an AirPort router. If you're using one of Apple's AirPort Base Station routers, you can easily adjust your WiFi network name using the AirPort Utility on your iPhone. Download the app from the App Store, then open it to view your Base Station and any other connected devices. Follow these steps to rename your network:
- Select your router (or base station) and tap Edit.
- Enter the new network name in the Wireless Network Name field.
- Tap Update to save your changes.
