Full walkthrough for taking down Mohg, Lord of Blood fast in Elden Ring
To access the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, you’ll need to defeat the fearsome Mohg. He's a high-level challenge—aim for at least level 100 before the fight. This guide shows you exactly where and how to reach him.
There are two primary paths to Mohg in Elden Ring: follow Varre's questline or use the Haligtree Medallion to reach the Consecrated Snowfield. Varre's quest is typically quicker—unless you've already gathered both medallion halves.
Walkthrough Steps
White Mask Varre Quest Path

Varre’s questline leads straight to Mohgwyn Palace, where Mohg awaits. It’s lengthy and easy to get lost in, but there's an alternate route if needed.
- This can be faster if you’ve unlocked many Sites of Grace for easy teleportation.
- While it originally required PVP, the August 2022 update added a PVE path.
- Steps include:
- Talk to Varre when you arrive in Limgrave. Exhaust all dialogue.
- Speak to him again in Roundtable Hold.
- Meet him at Rose Church after earning your first Great Rune from Godrick the Grafted. Receive a Festering Bloody Finger. Choose one:
- PVP: Invade 3 players—no kills required.
- PVE: Defeat Magnus the Beast Claw at Writheblood Ruins.
- Afterward, receive the Lord of Blood’s Favor.
- Use it on a maiden corpse at the Church of Inhibition (or Church of Anticipation) to get a reusable Bloody Finger.
- Return to Rose Church for a Bloody Finger and Pureblood Knight’s Medal.
- The Medal warps you to Mohgwyn Palace to face Mohg or continue the quest.
Reach Mohg Without Using Varre

Collect both halves of the Haligtree Medallion. If you don’t have them yet, check this Mytour article for help.
- This method is ideal if you’re missing Sites of Grace or skipped Varre’s storyline.

Head to the base of the Grand Lift of Rold. This connects the Forbidden Lands with the Mountaintops of the Giants. Use the D-pad to toggle and select “Hoist secret medallion.”
- Ensure the prompt says “Secret” instead of the default “Hoist medallion.”
- This lowers the lift to the Consecrated Snowfield, also known as the “Hidden Path to the Haligtree.”

Move west toward the Waygate. It’s located northwest of the Yelough Anix Ruins on your map.

Defeat the Sanguine Noble Invader. When you arrive in the western area, a Sanguine Noble will appear—eliminate them to move forward.

Activate the Waygate. After defeating the invader, use the nearby Waygate to teleport into a cave.

Move northwest. Exit the cave and proceed through the blood lake. Beware of Nameless White Mask invaders and enormous spectral skeletons.

Rest at the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance Site of Grace. Take this moment to recover and prepare for the upcoming battle with Mohg.

Mohg resists fire and physical damage. Fire is doubly ineffective, and physical does less harm, so consider using alternative damage types like Gravity Magic.
- Focus on breaking Mohg’s Poise to deal serious damage.
- Equip gear or talismans that boost your resistance to fire and physical attacks.

Use the Flask of Wonderous Physick with Purifying Crystal Tear. This tear blocks Blood Loss during Mohg’s "Nihil" attack—but note it doesn’t stop the boss from healing.

If you don’t have the Purifying Crystal Tear, use Crimson Tears instead. Though less effective, it works in a pinch. A +12 upgraded Flask of Crimson Tear can recover the health lost from the "Nihil" move with just 2 uses.

Use Mohg’s Shackle early in the fight. It works when Mohg still has high HP and isn’t too aggressive. It guarantees a critical hit for free damage.
- You can use the Shackle twice.
- Find it in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds.

Beware of Bloodflame attacks. In the first phase, Mohg barely moves, letting you attack freely.
- He’ll still lash out with his spear, so stay alert. Watch for Bloodflame Talons—three slashing trails in the air—and avoid standing in burning Bloodflame patches, which cause Blood Loss buildup and impact how much health you’ll lose later.

Attack from behind during Mohg’s Ritual Countdown. When red circles appear, stay behind him as he chants "Tres, Duo, Unnus" before unleashing a spear strike.
- Use heavy hits to try to break his Poise—he’ll perform this countdown three times.
- At 50% health, he initiates the Bloodboon Ritual, shouting "Nihil"—you’ll lose HP based on prior Blood Loss, and he’ll heal.
- This ritual repeats two more times.

Stay close and watch Mohg's wings after the Bloodboon Ritual. Once he grows wings, Mohg becomes faster and begins aerial attacks that rain down Bloodflame.
- Locking the camera on him helps track his movement but can obscure Bloodflame pools on the ground. If you're getting hit repeatedly, try unlocking the camera for better ground visibility.
- This is his final phase—survive this, and the fight is yours!
-
After defeating both Mohg and Starscourge Radahn, start the DLC by interacting with the withered arm emerging from the cocoon at Mohg's throne.
-
Consider farming Mohg for his high rune drop—it’s a great way to level up quickly.
