Reasons Why Apple Cash Might Not Be Working
- Your Apple Cash account may be deactivated.
- You might need to complete identity verification with Apple.
- Your account could have exceeded certain limits.
- You may need to manually accept a payment.
- Your service could be interrupted due to poor reception or lack of Wi-Fi.
What You Need to Do
Make Sure You and the Other Party Fulfill All Requirements

Ensure both you and the other person meet Apple Cash's criteria. To use Apple Cash, both parties involved—whether sending or receiving money—must meet certain requirements. These include:
- Being a resident of the United States
- Using devices registered in the U.S.
- Having your device updated to the latest OS version
- Using compatible devices
- iPhones with Face ID or Touch ID (excluding iPhone 5s)
- iPad Pro, Air, mini, and standard iPad models with Touch or Face ID
- Apple Watch Series 1 or newer
- Being signed into iCloud and iMessage with the same Apple ID
Activate Apple Cash

Make sure Apple Cash is turned on. If it's turned off, you won’t be able to use Apple Cash. To activate it on an iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and select Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Toggle the switch at the top of the screen to enable Apple Cash. When the switch is green, Apple Cash is active.
Reboot Your Device

Turn your device off and on again. Restarting your device can resolve many minor issues, including glitches that might prevent Apple Pay from working correctly. After restarting, check if Apple Cash works as expected.
- iPhone without Home Button: Press and hold the side button and volume button simultaneously until the power slider appears.
- iPhone with Home Button: Press and hold the side or top button until the power slider appears.
- iPad without Home Button: Press and hold the top button and volume button together until the power slider appears.
- iPad with Home Button: Press and hold the top button until the power slider appears.
- Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until the power slider appears.
Update Your Device

Ensure your device's OS is up to date. An outdated operating system can cause multiple issues, including problems with Apple Cash. After updating, try using Apple Cash again.
- iPhone or iPad: Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Make sure to keep your device plugged in during the update process.
- Apple Watch: Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is ready, tap Install. Keep your Apple Watch on its charger during the update.
Confirm Your Identity

Complete identity verification if prompted. If Apple requests identity verification before allowing you to use Apple Cash, you must complete the process. Here's how to verify your identity:
- iPhone: Open the Wallet app, select your Apple Cash card, tap the three dots in the upper-right corner, then choose Card Details > Verify Identity.
- iPad: Open Settings, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, then select your Apple Cash card.
- Apple Watch: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, select Wallet & Apple Pay, and tap your Apple Cash card.
- Follow the instructions to complete your identity verification. You might be asked for details like your full name, SSN, birthdate, address, personal history, and a photo of your driver's license or state ID.
Review Your Account Limits

Ensure you're staying within both your maximum and minimum limits. Apple Cash has specific limits for how much you can send, receive, and hold. These limits might be causing the issue you're facing with Apple Cash. Here are the key limits to keep in mind:
- Maximum balance: $20,000 for verified users, $4,000 for Apple Cash Family users
- Minimum amount for adding money: $10 for both verified and Family users
- Maximum amount for adding money: $10,000 for verified users, $2,000 for Family users
- This is both the per-transaction limit and the weekly limit.
- Minimum amount for sending & receiving: $1 for both verified and Family users
- Maximum amount for sending & receiving: $10,000 for verified users, $2,000 for Family users
- This applies to both individual transactions and weekly limits.
- Minimum for bank transfers: $1 for both verified and Family accounts
- If your balance is less than $1, you can still transfer it entirely to your bank account
- Maximum for bank transfers: $10,000 for verified users, $2,000 for Family users
- The weekly maximum for bank transfers is twice the amount ($20,000 for verified users, $4,000 for Family users).
- These limits do not include fees for Instant Transfers.
Manually Accept Payments

Tap the Accept button to receive your funds. If this is your first payment via Apple Cash or if you've disabled the automatic acceptance feature, you’ll need to tap the Accept button to retrieve your money.
- To enable automatic acceptance of payments, open the Wallet app, tap your Apple Cash card, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and select Card Details > Automatically Accept Payments.
Review Apple Cash Family Settings

Ensure your Apple Cash hasn't been locked through Apple Cash Family. If you're part of an Apple Cash Family, your account can be locked by the Family organizer. Unfortunately, you cannot unlock it yourself, but you can reach out to the Family organizer to inquire about the lock and request them to unlock it for you.
Verify Your Connection

Check that your internet or cellular connection is stable. If you're in an area with poor signal or no Wi-Fi, Apple Cash may not function correctly. A reliable internet (Wi-Fi) or cellular data connection is required to send and receive money via Apple Cash. If possible, connect to a Wi-Fi network or move to a location with a stronger signal before trying again.
Log Out and Re-Log Into Your Apple ID

Refresh your Apple ID login. Occasionally, signing out and back into your Apple ID can resolve issues, including problems with Apple Cash. To do this, go to the Apple ID section in your settings, tap Sign Out, then tap your Apple ID again in the settings to sign back in.
Toggle Airplane Mode

Turn airplane mode on and off. While it may seem unusual, some users have found that toggling airplane mode in conjunction with a few other steps has resolved their Apple Cash issues. If other solutions don't work, try the following:
- In Settings > Language and Region, ensure it's set to USA and English.
- In the Wallet app, tap your Apple Cash card, open the card details, and toggle Apple Cash off and on again.
- Toggle airplane mode on and off.
- Restart your device.
- Try using Apple Cash again.
Wait for the Bank to Process the Transfer

Give the bank some time to complete the transfer. If you tried transferring funds between your bank and Apple Cash during a weekend, evening, or federal holiday, you might need to be patient as transfers can take longer during these times.
