PayPal is an e-commerce company that facilitates both business and personal online money transfers. Through PayPal, users can pay for goods and services or simply send money to anyone with an email address. Established in 2000, PayPal is currently operational in over 150 markets and supports payments in 24 countries. Anyone can use PayPal's services to accept payments by following the straightforward steps outlined below.
Steps
Open an Account

Set up a PayPal Business Account if you don't have one already. Begin by visiting the PayPal homepage and clicking on the "Business" tab at the top of the page. Then, click the "Get Started" button in the middle of the page.
- You may also choose to register for a personal account on this page.

Next, click "Create New Account" to set up a new account. Follow the instructions to create a business account. Once PayPal verifies your information, you will be able to accept credit card payments on your website or via phone, mail, or fax, as well as electronic checks and emails.
- You will need to provide a valid email address and basic business information to set up your account.

Use the "Specialized Solutions" tab if applicable. If you're not running a business but still want to use PayPal to receive payments, click on the "Specialized Solutions" tab at the top right of the "Business" page to find the best options for your needs. Options available include Non-profits, Digital Goods, Education, Political Campaigns, and Government and Financial Services. Select the category that best suits you.
- If none of the listed categories apply, call the toll-free number to speak with an expert who can assist you in registering your account.
Create a PayPal Payment Button on Your Website

Create a payment button on your business website. If you don't have a PayPal business account, first set one up as described in Part 1. Your customers can then click the payment button on your website to easily pay with credit cards, debit cards, or checks.
- PayPal also allows you to send invoices using the "Pay Now" button linked to PayPal, helping customers complete payments quickly.

Access your account from the PayPal homepage. Use the "login" section at the top right of the homepage. You will need to enter your email address and the password you created for your account.

On your account page, click "Merchant Services". You will then see the option "Create payment buttons for your website." Click on it.

Select the button type you need. From the dropdown menu, you can choose from various button types like: "Buy Now", "Add to Cart", "Donate", and others. Fill in the required information about your product or service, then click "Create Button".
- If you're selling goods, you'll need to include shipping costs and applicable taxes in the invoice.
- At the bottom of the page, you'll find additional options, such as inventory tracking and customizing PayPal account features.

Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page. You will be redirected to a page containing a dialog box displaying the HTML code. Copy and paste the code into your website’s HTML to create the button on your site. To do this, you need to know how to edit your website's HTML.
- If you're unfamiliar with HTML (or lack confidence in editing the code), you can check out tutorials on this topic on Mytour, such as at this link: HTML How-To Articles
- If you hire a web developer, simply send them the HTML code by email, and they will add the button to your site for you.
Using Mobile Devices

Purchase an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet if you don't already have one. PayPal allows you to accept credit card payments on Apple or Android devices. This method is especially convenient for individuals or small businesses that receive most of their payments in person, such as food trucks, street vendors, etc.
- In the United States, PayPal charges a fee of 2.7% for each swipe made via phone. The fee is slightly higher if you manually enter the card number or use your phone’s camera to scan the card number (the fee is % + 3,000 VND per transaction).

Download the PayPal Here app to your device. The app is available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Install it on your device.

Open the app. You will be prompted to log into your PayPal account. The app will verify your email address and phone number. Afterward, it will offer to send you a free Card Reader. Use the verification code sent to your email to complete the registration process.

Update your business information by following the prompts. You can add your address, website, and Facebook page. This information will appear on your customers' receipts.

Follow the app's instructions to set up your payment plan. The simplest option is to enter each sales item individually, but you may also want to create a list of products with specific prices to choose from. When your customer is ready to pay, plug the PayPal Card Reader into your device’s headphone jack. You’ll see a notification saying "Card Reader Connected."

Enter the amount your customer is paying. Select "Card" on the next page. Swipe the customer's card through the card reader. The card should be placed with the magnetic stripe facing you.
- Swipe quickly and smoothly, making sure the entire magnetic stripe passes through the reader.
- If you don't have the Card Reader, you can still process the payment manually by entering the card details or using your phone to scan the card's information.

Ask your customer to sign directly on your phone. Tap "Complete Purchase" to finalize the transaction and receive payment. Offer to send a receipt to the customer via email.
Accept payments via email (For Independent Contractors)

Create a valid email address and link it to a PayPal account. If you're an independent contractor, all you need is to receive payments online. This method is particularly useful for online freelancers. Many businesses prefer this payment method because it's easy to make a one-time payment.
- For this method, the business owner will also need a PayPal account. Check with them if you're unsure whether they accept this payment method.
- If the payer doesn’t have a PayPal account, you can still request money from them. After logging into your My PayPal page, click on Send and then Request. Next, select Request Money and enter their email address and the amount requested. You can also add a note if desired. Finally, click Request. PayPal will send the request and notify you once payment is received.

Inform the business owner of the email address you use for your PayPal account. That’s all you need to do to receive payments. The business owner using this method will provide their payment details.

When the business owner makes a payment to you, access your PayPal account. From the "My Account" home page, select "Withdraw". On the next page, you’ll have several options for receiving the funds. You can:
- Transfer funds from your PayPal account to your bank account (free of charge).
- Request a check to be mailed to you (fee of 33,000 VND).
- Request a PayPal debit card (free of charge).
- Withdraw via ATM (fee of 22,000 VND).
- Note: You will also receive an email at the address linked to your PayPal account when you receive the payment. This email will include instructions on how to withdraw funds.

On the next page, provide your payment details. Depending on the payment method you choose, you'll need to provide bank account numbers, address, or other contact information. If you're transferring funds to a bank account, it will take 3-4 days for processing. If you request a check or debit card, expect to receive it in 5-10 days.
Advice
- In addition to cards, the PayPal Here app allows you to accept payments via check, cash, and invoices. These options don't require a Card Reader.
- PayPal enables acceptance of foreign currencies.
- If you don't link a bank account or credit card to your PayPal business account for verification, you can apply for a PayPal Extras MasterCard. If approved, you can use this card to verify your PayPal account.
Warning
- Only PayPal accounts that have received payments are protected in case of a credit card chargeback from a customer.
- PayPal’s Seller Protection Program only applies to verified account holders. This program will reimburse you if the credit card company accepts the chargeback and the Seller complies with PayPal's Service Terms.
- Independent contractors with free PayPal accounts can only withdraw 11 million VND per month until this limit is lifted. For instructions on how to remove the limit, visit the "My Account" homepage, click the small text link "view limits" under the gray "Welcome, (Your Name)" heading.
