Achieving good grades is a goal for many students at any stage of their education. Managing homework, tests, and projects can be a daunting task, but with a bit of effort and determination, you'll be able to achieve (and maintain) high scores. Keep reading to learn how to stay at the top of your class and perform excellently in your studies.
Steps
Create a Plan

A plan will help you track assignments, submissions, and deadlines. Whether it's a daily planner in your backpack, a calendar on the wall at home, or a to-do list, it can help you organize everything clearly. At the start of each semester, when creating your plan, make sure to note down all the tests, quizzes, and assignment deadlines for each subject.
- Every day when you get home from school, check your planner to see what needs to be done for the next day and the upcoming days. Review completed tasks to avoid confusion.
Participate in Class Lessons

Raise your hand to ask or answer questions. Some teachers even award participation points, so it's important to speak up during lessons. If you don't understand something or are stuck on a particular point, raise your hand and ask the teacher for clarification. If you find it hard to focus during class, try sitting in the front row to minimize distractions.
- If you're an auditory learner, try recording the lecture to listen to it later.
- Your teachers will appreciate your participation, especially if you're the only one speaking up in class. If your teachers like you, they may be more lenient when grading you.
Take Effective Notes

Write down the most relevant information during lessons. You don't need to transcribe everything the teacher says (you probably don't have the time), just focus on writing down key concepts. Anything the teacher writes on the board or emphasizes to the class is worth noting.
- To take notes quickly, try using abbreviations instead of writing everything out fully. For example, in math class, you might write 'geom' for 'geometry' or 'alg' for 'algebra'.
Ask the Teacher for Help

Form a Study Group

Studying with friends can help you grasp difficult concepts. Discussing and summarizing knowledge together is an excellent way to prepare for exams and complete assignments. Just make sure no one in the group distracts each other or chats during study time!
- This method takes information off the page, making it more engaging and easier to remember. When you have to explain something to someone else, you’ll approach it from a different, clearer perspective.
Use Memory Tricks

Memory tricks can help you retain difficult information. Perhaps you’ve heard the mnemonic for remembering trigonometric formulas: “Sin đi học/ cứ khóc hoài/ thôi đừng khóc/ có kẹo đây.” Why does it work? Because these memory aids are effective and stick in your mind!
- Try creating associations while studying. If you’re trying to remember that India was once a British colony, imagine Queen Victoria running around the Taj Mahal. When test time comes, you may not remember the exact fact, but it will help kickstart your memory!
Study for 10-20 minutes each day instead of cramming

Cramming is not an effective way to retain information. While it might sometimes be unavoidable, the best method is to study a little each day before the exam. Try to start reviewing a week before you need to use the information.
- Avoid studying all night before the exam. If you’re exhausted and groggy from lack of sleep, you won’t be able to think clearly or work efficiently.
Take Practice Tests

Practice tests can help you prepare for the real exam. Search for online practice exams in your subject area and do your best to answer as accurately as possible. Review your answers and fill in any gaps.
- There are many major practice tests available online, such as SAT or ACT.
- If you have trouble finding practice tests, ask your teacher for help.
Take 15-Minute Breaks After Every 45 Minutes of Study

Breaks provide an opportunity for your brain to relax. While studying or doing assignments, remember to give yourself time to rest. You can walk around the house, grab a snack, or take a stroll around the neighborhood.
- Make sure to do something truly relaxing during your break. It will help you feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle the next task.
Eat a Nutritious and Healthy Breakfast Every Day

Studies show that breakfast can give you a great start to your day. Before heading to class in the morning, try to eat something that fills your stomach and provides energy until lunchtime. If you're not hungry, grab a nutritious granola bar or a yogurt cup to have later.
- Choose a breakfast that is both filling and nutritious. You can have oatmeal, toast, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, or a granola bar to fuel your brain and body.
Tips
- Don't compare yourself to others around you, as they may have different goals. Focus on working hard and achieving your own personal goals.
