Maintaining clear skin can be challenging, especially for certain skin types. Many skincare products contain ingredients that can irritate the skin and cause more issues. To achieve naturally clear skin, first, you need to identify your skin type and then combine the use of natural face washes with a healthy lifestyle to nourish and protect your skin.
Steps

Identify Your Skin Type. Different skin types require different care. Identifying your skin type is crucial to finding the best way to cleanse your skin. Here are some common skin types and how to identify them:
- Dry Skin: Dry skin often appears dull, feels rough, and can be itchy, sometimes sensitive. Dry skin needs regular hydration from the inside (drinking water) and outside (using face mists), as well as moisturization with rich creams or lotions.
- Oily Skin: Oily skin tends to look shiny and greasy. It is more prone to acne. Oily skin benefits from regular herbal steam treatments and clay masks to absorb excess oil.
- Normal Skin: If you're lucky enough to have normal skin, you're in good hands. It isn't too oily or too dry, and it looks even-toned, radiant, and moisturized. However, it still requires care. Normal skin stays healthy with regular cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
- Most people have at least two skin types on their face at any given time. Combination skin is usually identified by an oily “T-zone,” which includes the forehead, nose, and chin, while the cheeks, eyes, and mouth may be normal or dry. This skin type needs specific care, so individuals with combination skin should assess their skin regularly and use different products for each area of the face.

Drink Water. Water helps detoxify the body and flush out impurities. It also hydrates and removes dirt and oil from the skin. Aim to drink 8-13 cups of water, each 240 ml, daily.

Use natural facial cleansing products. Face cleansers containing harsh chemicals can damage the skin. These chemicals can strip paint from walls and bleach certain fabrics. It's better to use natural, organic facial products that clean your skin quickly and effectively compared to non-natural cleansers.

Ensure a scientific and nutritious diet. Include plenty of fruits, nuts, beans, etc., in your diet. A healthy eating regimen combined with vitamin and mineral supplements can benefit your skin. You might try a vegetarian diet for a week to see the effects.
- Avoid meat, fish, eggs, fried foods, white flour, sugar, coffee, tea, soda, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, any medication (including birth control pills), and over-the-counter stimulants. Anything artificial or processed is less beneficial than natural, unprocessed products.

Limit makeup use. Excessive or heavy makeup can harm the skin over time. Avoid concealing acne with layers of makeup. If you must wear makeup, choose natural and mineral-based products.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Limit your time in direct sunlight, especially during peak hours (from 10 AM to 2 PM). If you need to be outdoors for an extended period, protect your skin by wearing a wide-brimmed hat. While sunlight is a great source of vitamin D for the skin, it can also cause wrinkles and increase the risk of skin cancer.
- Always use a natural sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.

Exercise for at least 15 minutes daily. Proper exercise can make your skin glow. Remember to cleanse your face thoroughly after working out, as sweat and dirt can clog your pores.

Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser and apply a toner directly onto the problematic areas (although it's best to avoid overusing toner). When washing your face, especially when removing makeup, splashing cold water on your face beforehand can help tighten your pores. Then, you can begin cleansing with a mild soap or facial cleanser, followed by rinsing with warm water. Finally, splash a little cold water on your skin. Warm water opens up the pores, helping to wash away dirt, bacteria, and makeup. Open pores can allow foreign particles to enter the body, where they can remain near the skin's surface or be absorbed deeper into the pores. If you don't wash your face properly, these particles (including dirt, oils, and bacteria) can spread across your skin during the process. Incorrect washing can also spread bacteria and fail to remove accumulated dirt and impurities. Splashing cold water on your face before washing helps close the pores, preventing particles from entering, and ensures that dirt and foreign particles are completely removed without spreading. Rinsing with cool water at the end helps tighten the pores and prevent further contamination.

Drink three cups of Red Clover tea daily to naturally cleanse your blood and help treat acne. In addition to its blood-cleansing properties, some believe Red Clover can help skin heal faster after acne. It is recommended to follow a diet rich in vitamin A, B vitamins, and vitamin C, and if necessary, consider taking daily vitamin supplements. Research by Dr. Samuel Bluefard of Northwestern University (USA) found that 'combining 1g of vitamin C, orange juice, and 100,000 IU of vitamin A daily can help treat acne in teenagers.'

For deep wounds and prolonged infections, you can use diluted apple cider vinegar. Alternatively, you can use lavender essential oil for steam therapy to treat acne. Add a few drops of lavender oil to a pot of hot water, then cover your head with a towel and place your face over the pot. The steam containing lavender oil helps open the pores and has antiseptic properties.
Tips:
- Avoid picking at pimples or touching your face. Popping pimples can spread infection and cause permanent scarring as oils and bacteria are pushed deeper into the skin, leading to cysts and inflammatory acne that causes scarring.
- Don't scrub your face. Scrubbing too hard, especially with abrasive soaps, can increase the production of dead skin cells, which in turn increases oil production. If desired, exfoliate your face once a week and only scrub gently.
- Avoid using cosmetics. If you must, use natural cosmetics or opt for products that are oil-free (made from water) or non-comedogenic, meaning they are less likely to cause acne. Always make sure to remove makeup before going to bed.
- Don't wash your face with soap. Soap is too harsh and can irritate hair follicles and oil glands. In fact, a report from the Kansas Department of Health (USA) shows that '25% of acne cases can be effectively controlled by washing the face 4-5 times a day… However, soap should not be used to wash the face... Soap irritates the sebaceous glands and causes them to produce more oil than usual.' In medical literature, soap is often cited as an irritant.
- Avoid synthetic chemicals and products that leave residues on your skin, as these can accumulate and cause acne. Some chemicals to avoid include: propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, propylene glycol, mineral oil, and parabens, along with many other chemicals.
- Excessive sun exposure can cause freckles. Therefore, if you must go outside, make sure to apply sunscreen.
- Avoid pressure or friction on the skin (such as wearing headbands or hats) to prevent acne irritation.
- Don't use creams containing vitamin A or D, as these vitamins are not absorbed by the skin. Lotions containing vitamin A and D are ineffective.
- Avoid applying too many products to your skin. This can disrupt the skin's pH balance and lead to skin problems.
- Use a cleanser with an alkaline pH to neutralize the acids, as acidic products can clog pores.
Warning
- Avoid using too many skincare products at once to prevent irritation and damage to your skin.
- Don't stay outside in the sun for too long.
- Refrain from eating unhealthy food.
