Many people face skin issues, whether it's uneven skin tone, poor texture, or wrinkles. Achieving beautiful, smooth skin is not as difficult as it seems. You can significantly improve your skin condition by changing your lifestyle, using the right skincare products, applying makeup properly, or visiting a dermatologist or spa for professional treatments.
Steps
Change Your Lifestyle

Drink Plenty of Water. Water plays a crucial role in cleansing the skin from the inside and preventing wrinkles. Proper hydration will leave your skin looking as fresh as a baby's.
- Try to consume around 2 liters of fluid each day, including water. Opt for water as your primary drink instead of sugary beverages or alcohol.
- Avoid sugary sodas and alcohol, as they negatively affect the skin. The sugar and chemicals in sodas can cause acne and excess oil buildup, while alcohol dehydrates the skin and leads to premature aging.
- Add slices of cucumber or lemon to your water, as both have been proven to improve skin health and give your drink a refreshing taste.

Apply sunscreen regularly. Sun exposure is the leading cause of uneven skin tone, so protect yourself by using sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day.
- Avoid tanning and limit sun exposure for long hours, as these activities are extremely dangerous and can increase the risk of cancer.
- While SPF 15 is the minimum protection, it’s better to use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for better protection.
- Apply sunscreen daily, even when it’s cloudy. About 80% of UV rays can penetrate through clouds, meaning you’re still exposed to sunlight on overcast or rainy days.
- Choose sunscreens that protect against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays cause wrinkles and aging, while UVB rays cause sunburn. Many moisturizers and foundations already contain sunscreen, so check the packaging carefully. If your makeup or moisturizer doesn’t include sunscreen, always apply it beneath your makeup.

Exercise regularly. Exercise not only impacts your body size and weight but also helps regenerate new skin cells, keeping your skin even, smooth, and youthful.
- You don’t need to engage in intense workouts to have healthy skin. Simply stimulating blood circulation for a few minutes each day is sufficient.
- If you sweat a lot during your workout, be sure to wash your face afterward to remove excess oil and dirt from clogging your pores and causing breakouts.

Avoid unhealthy foods and opt for fresh fruits and vegetables instead. Eating a balanced diet can help you achieve smooth and flawless skin. However, when you start, you may notice some acne appearing as your skin expels toxins. Chemicals, oils, and sugars in junk food increase oil production, which can clog pores.
- Rather than cutting out junk food completely, gradually add fresh foods to your diet while reducing processed foods to nourish your skin.
- Some foods like blueberries and salmon are rich in antioxidants, making them perfect for promoting smooth, even skin.
Use Cosmetics

Exfoliate your skin. Dead skin cells accumulate on the surface of the skin over time, causing aging and dryness. Exfoliating helps rejuvenate your skin and restore its youthful appearance.
- Many brands offer affordable chemical exfoliators or specialized exfoliating brushes that you can find at beauty stores.
- Create your own exfoliating scrub with sugar and honey. Gently rub this mixture in circular motions on your face, then rinse with warm water to remove the dead skin. If you want a gentler scrub, mix oats and honey instead. Another option is to blend baking soda and water in equal amounts, but this mixture is quite strong, so only use it once or twice a week.
- Most beauty salons and spas offer professional exfoliating services. Check out the options available in your area.
- Electric exfoliating devices are also available. These products use a special rotating brush (similar to an electric toothbrush) to help cleanse your face twice a day. While these devices are expensive, costing over 2 million VND, they’re highly effective in keeping your skin soft and ensuring clean pores.

Makeup

Apply Concealer. A liquid or cream concealer that matches your skin tone will effectively cover brown or red spots, as well as dark circles under the eyes. This product is perfect for achieving an even complexion.
- Concealers are available in shades that match natural skin tones (such as brown or tan) or in colors like yellow, green, and purple. These colored concealers help balance out redness or pimples on the skin.
- Always use a specialized small, firm brush with a rounded edge to apply the concealer. Using your fingers may transfer bacteria to your pores, potentially worsening acne or redness.
- Instead of rubbing the concealer into your skin with your fingers, gently dab it on and blend the edges with a brush. You can also use a clean sponge to blend the product evenly.
- Make sure your concealer isn't too dark, as skin can turn orange-brown in areas with sunspots or age spots. It's best to use a lighter concealer since it can darken once you apply foundation. Always apply colored concealer first, then follow up with a regular concealer layer.

Apply Foundation. Foundation is a makeup product that helps even out your complexion by covering the entire face. It comes in various forms such as powder, liquid, and spray. Although all types are effective, powder foundation tends to last longer and conceals natural oils on the skin.
- Always use a large brush designed for foundation, often referred to as a kabuki brush, to apply foundation. Whether you're using powder or liquid, the brush helps evenly distribute the product across your face. Using your fingers can transfer bacteria and cause uneven coverage. A makeup sponge can also help in applying foundation smoothly.
- Dot a small amount of foundation over the concealer to prevent it from smudging. This also helps the makeup blend seamlessly with your natural skin tone for better coverage.
- Blend foundation down your neck to ensure your face and neck are evenly covered.

Add Color and Dimension to Your Face. Now that your skin tone is even, the features on your face may appear rather flat. Add some blush to bring a natural flush to your cheeks.
- Apply blush with a round brush, sweeping from the apples of your cheeks toward your temples at a 45-degree angle to create a modern blush look.
- You can use either powder or cream blush, but choose the one that best matches your skin type and needs.
- Blushes come in shades of pink, peach, and purple. For fair skin, opt for a pink tone. Medium to beige skin tones work well with peach tones, while darker skin tones are best complemented by purple-hued blush.

Create Highlight and Contour. Use bronzer on your cheekbones and highlighter on top of your cheekbones to create a natural glow, commonly seen under bright lights.
- Apply bronzer from your hairline to your nose, but avoid using too much. Be sure to blend it evenly into your skin.
- Use highlighter to add a radiant touch to areas of your face where light naturally hits. This is a light cream or powder with shimmer that can be applied with a brush or roller. Apply highlighter beneath the eyebrows, at the inner corner of the eyes, and blend it in a “C” shape from beneath the cheekbones to the forehead. You can also add a touch along the Cupid's bow and down the bridge of your nose.

Apply Setting Powder. While setting powder is not essential, it helps your makeup last longer and gives your skin a natural, even look.
Special Treatments

Take Doctor-Prescribed Medication. Discuss your skin concerns with a dermatologist. Based on your condition, they will prescribe various medications to improve your skin’s appearance and texture.
- Some oral medications help regulate hormonal imbalances, which can be the cause of skin issues.
- Topical creams may also be prescribed by your dermatologist. These can treat aging, sun damage, acne, or acne scars.
- Always ask your doctor about potential side effects when using skin treatment medications.

Facial Skin Care. You can receive facial treatments at a spa or aesthetic clinic to help your skin remain smooth and even over time. Research facial care services available near your location.
- Facial treatments are often tailored to your skin's needs. Choose treatments designed to combat acne, repair sun damage, address skin disorders, or nourish aging skin, based on your specific concerns.
- Although facials can be expensive, paying a little extra for a reputable aesthetician is more effective than opting for cheaper services. While affordable options can be safe, investing more will typically yield better results.

Laser Treatments. This type of treatment addresses age spots and wrinkles but should only be performed by a dermatologist. Note that these treatments can be costly and are generally not covered by insurance.
- Laser treatments work by emitting short but intense light beams that remove layers of skin. This procedure is commonly known as laser skin resurfacing.
- Avoid laser treatments if you have active acne, as it could worsen your skin condition.
- It will take about two weeks for your skin to recover after a laser treatment. During this time, your skin will regenerate, and any discoloration or scabbing will fade.

Use Microdermabrasion Therapy. This treatment involves exfoliation and skin resurfacing, helping to remove dead skin cells and address pigmentation issues. It can be done at a spa or aesthetic clinic.
- Microdermabrasion smooths the skin using an exfoliating mask and a special brush or tool. It's ideal for treating dark spots and uneven skin tones.
- Dermabrasion, a similar technique, is commonly used for scar treatment. However, this method is most effective for fair skin as it may worsen scarring on darker skin tones. Only consider dermabrasion if you have severe acne scars, skin conditions, or scars from accidents.
Advice
- Always clean your makeup brushes after each use to prevent bacteria buildup.
- Avoid exposure to the sun after applying lemon juice to prevent skin irritation and redness.
- Remember to wash your face before going to bed after wearing makeup.
- Use almond oil as a natural skin toner.
- Drink a glass of water every 30-60 minutes.
- If your skin appears both red and yellowish, be cautious about which imperfections to conceal. Using green or purple concealer simultaneously can make your skin look patchy.
Warnings
- Sometimes, cosmetics can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. If you're trying a new product, pay close attention to any changes or reactions in your skin.
- Some skin issues may be symptoms of underlying health conditions. If you notice unusual or severe skin problems, it’s best to consult a doctor.
