Many users rely on iTunes for music management and playback, and also use it to organize music files obtained through other software. iTunes offers several options for adding music to your library, such as extracting music from CDs or adding tracks from other applications. If you cannot add music through these methods, you can add it to iTunes by including a music folder.
Steps

Open iTunes and click on the menu bar button. In iTunes, navigate your library using any of the music tabs (Artist, Album, or Song). At the top left corner of the screen, you’ll find a small rectangle that is half-filled. Click here, and the menu bar will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and choose 'Show Menu Bar'. After clicking this, the traditional menu with options like 'File', 'Edit', 'View', 'Control', 'Store', and 'Help' will appear near the top of the screen.
- If the menu bar is already visible, skip this step.

Locate the music files you want to add to iTunes. Whether you’ve downloaded an mp3 file from the internet or have a hidden music folder elsewhere on your computer, you will need to find the location of your music folder. Search your computer (outside of iTunes) and pinpoint the music folder. Move this folder to a more accessible location, such as the desktop or your Downloads folder. This will make it easier to locate your music files when adding the folder to iTunes.

Verify the file extensions to ensure compatibility with iTunes. While most music file types can be added to iTunes without issues, it’s essential to check that the file extensions used are compatible. Music files may have extensions like AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, AAC, or M4A. If you have an unprotected WMA file, iTunes can convert it to another format. Otherwise, you'll need to convert the music file into one of these formats before adding it to iTunes.

Add a new folder to iTunes. Click on the 'File' menu. Mac users will see the ‘Add to Library’ option, while PC users will find ‘Add Folder to Library’. Select the option that appears, and allow iTunes to open a file browser window.
- Alternatively, you can use the ‘Add File to Library’ option, but this will only add a single song, not an entire folder of songs to your iTunes library.

Browse the folder you created. In the newly opened window, locate the music folder you previously set up. Click to highlight it, then click ‘Select Folder’ at the bottom of the window.
- If you chose ‘Add File to Library’, you can hold the shift key to select multiple folders and copy the entire music folder into your library.

Search for the folder to add to your iTunes library. Once you click ‘Select Folder’, the search window will automatically close, and your library will reappear. Wait for 5-10 seconds, and then search for the folder you just added. The copying process might take a little time, so if the library doesn't show up immediately, wait for a moment. Once you find the folder, check the playback to ensure the music files were copied in the correct order. You've now successfully added music to iTunes!
Tips
- You can also add a music folder to iTunes by dragging and dropping the folder onto the iTunes icon on your desktop.
Warning
- Moving, cutting, and pasting files will follow a different process for Mac users. Macs usually don't allow cutting and pasting due to the risk of forgetting to paste the file, which could result in losing it. Use the 'Cmd' key if you want to cut and paste instead of copying the file.
