A plug-in (or extension) enhances Google Chrome just like any other browser, allowing it to process specific web content. Common plug-ins supported by Google Chrome include: Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Java, Real Player, QuickTime, and Microsoft Silverlight. When a website loads and requests one of these add-ons, you will be prompted to install or update the plug-in in order to view special content.
Steps
Enable the plug-in

Launch Google Chrome. Find and open the Google Chrome app on your computer. The web browser will start up.

Go to the Settings page. Click on the 'Customize and control Google Chrome' button with the three vertical dots located at the top-right corner of the browser to open the main menu. Scroll down and select the 'Settings' option. A new Settings window will open.

Show advanced settings. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click on the link 'Show advanced settings...'. The page will expand to reveal additional options.

Go to the Content Settings section. Scroll down to the Privacy section and click on the 'Content settings...' button. A small window will appear with settings related to web content, including: Cookies, Images, JavaScript, Handlers, Plug-ins, Pop-ups, and more.

Enable the plug-in. Select the 'Run automatically (recommended)' option under the Plug-ins section. This will allow Google Chrome to automatically run all plug-ins requested by the website.
- Alternatively, you can adjust which plug-ins are run by clicking on the 'Click to play' option. Google Chrome will block all plug-ins by default, but you can still activate them by clicking on the plug-in icon.
- If you'd like, you can review all the plug-ins Google Chrome has by navigating to 'chrome://plugins/' in the address bar.
Configure and launch the plug-in

Access a website that may require an add-on. For example, to watch preview clips on the site http://trailers.apple.com/, you need to install the QuickTime plug-in.

Wait for the prompt to appear. While the page is loading, the website will detect that it needs a specific add-on to display special content and will automatically check if Google Chrome has the required plug-in. If your browser does not have the necessary plug-in, a prompt will appear at the top of the page.

Install the plug-in. Click on the 'Install plug-in' or 'Update plug-in' notification. The plug-in will be downloaded and installed for Google Chrome.
- Some plug-ins may require you to download and install a separate file.

Restart Google Chrome. After the installation is complete, close all windows and exit Google Chrome. Relaunch the browser to ensure the plug-in is properly installed. Now, you can revisit the website and view the special content with the support of the newly installed plug-in.
