Today, Mytour will show you how to upload files from your computer, smartphone, or tablet to your Google Drive account. Google Drive is a free feature available with every Google Account; if you don’t have one yet, you’ll need to create an account before proceeding.
Steps
On the Google Drive Website

Open Google Drive. Visit https://drive.google.com/ using your web browser. The Google Drive homepage will appear if you’re already signed into your Google Account.
- If you aren’t signed in, click the blue Go to Google Drive button in the center of the page, then enter your Google Account email and password.

Click on NEW. This blue button is located at the top-left corner of the page. A dropdown menu will appear.

Select the upload option. Click on one of the following options depending on what you want to upload:
- File upload - Allows you to select specific files or groups of files to upload.
- Folder upload - Lets you choose an entire folder to upload.

Choose the file or folder. In the File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window that opens, navigate to the location of the file or folder and click on the content you wish to upload.
- You can select multiple files by holding down Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ Command (Mac) while clicking on each file you want to select.
- Note: You cannot upload more than 15 GB of data unless you pay for additional storage.

Click Open at the bottom of the window. Your selection will be confirmed, and the file or folder will begin uploading to Google Drive.
- If you’re uploading a folder, click OK.

Wait for the data to upload. The time this takes will depend on the size of the data and your Internet connection speed.
- Do not close the Google Drive page during this process.
- Once the file is uploaded, you can access it through Google Drive on any computer or smartphone with an Internet connection.

Organize your files. Once your data is uploaded to Google Drive, you can click and drag files to move them into folders as needed. You can also delete unnecessary files by right-clicking on them and selecting Remove.
- To create a new folder in Google Drive, click on NEW, choose Folder from the dropdown menu, enter a name, and press ↵ Enter.
On Mobile

Open Google Drive. Tap on the Google Drive app icon, which features a triangle-shaped Drive logo on a white background. Your personal Drive page will open if you’re already signed in.

Tap the + icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen. A menu will pop up.

Tap the Upload option in the pop-up menu.

Select the upload option. The upload options will vary slightly depending on the device you’re using (iPhone or Android):
- For iPhone - Tap on Photos and Videos to select photos and/or videos from the Photos app, or tap Browse to choose files from the Files app.
- For Android - Select the file location from the menu that appears. At a minimum, you’ll see options for Images and Videos here.

Choose the files to upload. Press and hold on a file to select it, then tap on additional files to add them to your selection.
- On iPhone, some files will automatically begin uploading after you tap on them.

- Do not close the Google Drive app during this process.
- Once the files are uploaded, you can access them through Google Drive on any computer or smartphone with an Internet connection.
On Computer

Open the Backup and Sync website. Visit https://www.google.com/drive/download/backup-and-sync/ using your computer’s web browser. Google Drive’s "Backup and Sync" feature allows users to upload data to their Google Drive account simply by moving files into a designated folder on their computer when connected to the Internet.

Click on Download Backup and Sync. This blue button is located in the center of the page.

Click on Agree and download. The Backup and Sync EXE (Windows) or DMG (Mac) file will begin downloading to your computer.

Install Backup and Sync. Once the Backup and Sync setup file has finished downloading, locate it on your computer (usually in the Downloads folder), then:
- On Windows - Double-click the setup file, click Yes when prompted, and wait for Backup and Sync to install.
- On Mac - Double-click the setup file, confirm the installation if asked, double-click the icon in the center of the window, and wait for Backup and Sync to install.

Click on GET STARTED. This blue button is located in the center of the welcome page.

Log in to your Google Drive account. Enter your Google Drive email and password when prompted. As long as the login details are correct, your Google Account will be signed in to Backup and Sync.

Click on GOT IT. The sync page will open.

Select folders to sync with Google Drive. Uncheck any folders you don’t want to sync at the top of the page.
- Note: You only have 15 GB of free storage on Google Drive.

Click the NEXT button at the bottom-right corner of the window.

Click GOT IT when prompted again. The reverse sync page will appear, where you can choose Google Drive folders to sync to your computer.
- In most cases, Google Drive will only sync content from your Drive to your computer.

Click on START at the bottom-right corner of the window.

Move files into the folder synced with Google Drive. Select the file or folder, press Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac) to copy the selected content, then navigate to the folder synced with Google Drive, and press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Command+V (Mac) to paste the data here. The files will upload to Google Drive the next time you connect to the Internet.
- For example, if you’ve synced your desktop folder with Google Drive, you’ll need to move files or folders to your desktop to sync them to Google Drive.

Review your computer’s folders on Google Drive. You can view your computer’s folders by opening Google Drive, clicking on the Computers tab on the left side of the page, and selecting your computer.
