This article is a guide to adding friends on your Steam account. If you haven’t made a minimum purchase of $5 USD (about 120,000 VND) or added this amount to your account, you won't be able to make friends.
Steps to Follow
On Mobile Devices
Launch Steam. This is the dark blue icon featuring the Steam logo. If you're already logged into Steam, opening the app will take you to the last page you accessed.
- If you're not logged in, enter your username and password, then select Log in.
- If you haven't spent at least $5 USD (about 120,000 VND) or added this amount to your Steam account, you won’t be able to add friends.
- After logging in, you’ll be asked to verify your identity by entering a code sent to the email address you used to sign up for Steam. To do this, visit your email inbox, locate the email from "Steam Support", open it, and enter the 5-character code displayed below the line that reads: "Here is the Steam Guard code you need to login to account [your account name]:".
Tap on the ☰ icon. This is the option located at the top left corner of the screen.
Tap on the Friends option. You’ll find this option on the left side of the screen.
- Tap on the Chat option if you're using Android.
Open the search bar. To do this, you can swipe down on your screen (on iPhone) or tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the screen (on Android).
Enter the name of a friend or group. As you type, you'll see a list of usernames below the search bar.
- On iPhone, tap the All Players tab below the search bar.
- Android users will need to tap Search All Players below the search bar.
Tap on the username of the person you’re searching for. Once you type their correct username, their details will appear under the search bar as you finish typing.
- On Android, you'll need to tap their name twice: once below the search bar and again on the next page.
Tap on the Add Friend button. This is located below their profile picture. Tapping it will send them a friend request on Steam, but you’ll need to wait for them to accept the request.
On Desktop
Go to the Steam website. You can access it at http://store.steampowered.com/. Your Steam homepage will appear right on the screen.
- If you haven’t spent at least $5 USD (around 120,000 VND) or added this amount to your Steam account, you won’t be able to add friends.
Hover the cursor over your username. If you’re logged into your Steam account on a desktop, your username will be visible at the top of the page.
- If you're not logged in, click the login button at the top right of the page and enter your Steam email and password.
Click on the FRIENDS option. This option appears in the menu below your username. Clicking it will take you to your friends list.
Click on the +ADD FRIENDS option, located on the right side of the page.
Type the name of a friend or group. As you type, you'll notice several usernames pop up below the search bar.
- You can refine your search by selecting Individuals or Groups below the search bar.
Click on the ADD AS A FRIEND button, located next to the selected username. This action will send a friend request.
- You will have to wait for the other person to accept your request before they are added to your friends list.
