Are you looking to add some extra challenge to your next Skyrim playthrough? Why not try becoming a vampire? Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of transforming into a vampire, living the vampire life, and leveling up to become a Vampire Lord in the game.
Steps
Become a regular vampire

Contract "Sanguinare Vampiris". This is the disease that will turn you into a vampire. You can contract the disease by letting a vampire enemy attack you. You will have a 10% chance of becoming infected each time you’re struck by a vampire’s physical weapon or the spell "Vampiric Drain".
- Morvarth’s Lair is one of the best places to get infected with Sanguinare Vampiris due to the many low-level vampires that roam the cave’s openings. You might take a few hits before you die and most likely will get infected. Other places include Bloodlet Throne, Haemar's Shame, Fellglow Keep, and Broken Fang Cave.

Make sure you're not immune. If you've contracted Lycanthropy (werewolf), you will be immune to Sanguinare Vampiris. Using Hircine's Ring will also grant immunity. Additionally, Argonians and Wood Elves are less likely to be infected due to their natural resistance to diseases.

Don't cure Sanguinare Vampiris. This disease will last for 72 in-game hours before it transforms you into a vampire. After this period, your character will become a vampire.
- You will receive notifications along with a flashing red light as the 72-hour deadline approaches.
- Your character needs to be exposed to sunlight at least once before the game allows you to transform into a vampire.
- Sanguinare Vampiris can be cured by drinking a Cure Disease potion or praying at a shrine. Therefore, avoid doing these for 3 days.

Use the console (PC only). You can quickly become a vampire without contracting Sanguinare Vampiris by using the console to cheat. First, open the console by pressing the ~ key.
- Type player.setrace playerraceracevampire and press ↵ Enter (make sure to replace "playerrace" with your race name). For example, if you're a Khajiit, type player.setrace khajitracevampire.
Become a Vampire Lord

Download Dawnguard. You will need this Skyrim expansion to access the unique features of the Vampire Lord. Dawnguard is available for all platforms that support Skyrim. The Vampire Lord has notable weaknesses to fire and frost compared to regular vampires in Skyrim.
- The Vampire Lord can transform into a fearsome winged creature. You will be able to use Blood Magic and unlock many powerful vampire abilities.

Start the Dawnguard quest. After installing the Dawnguard expansion, guards and innkeepers will start talking to you about the vampire hunters. This is when the quest begins. Head to Fort Dawnguard, located to the east of Riften, in the southeast corner of the map.

Begin the "Awakening" quest. Once Dawnguard has been mentioned, you will receive this quest, sending you to Dimhollow Crypt. Here, you will meet Serana, who will ask for your help in escorting her to her father at Castle Volkihar.

Escort Serana home. Bring Serana to Castle Volkihar, located west of Solitude. Hand her over to Lord Harkon, who will offer to make you a Vampire Lord. This is the first chance to become a Vampire Lord, but you can still have two more opportunities if you decline.
- During the Chasing Echoes quest, Serana will offer to make you a Vampire Lord. This is due to living beings being unable to enter the Soul Cairn under normal circumstances.
- After defeating Harkon and completing the Kindred Judgment quest, the final step in the Dawnguard questline, you can request Serana to grant you the title of Vampire Lord.

Use the console (PC only). If you'd rather not complete the questline to become a Vampire Lord, you can bypass it using cheats via the console. Press ~ to open the console.
- If you're not already a regular vampire, you can use the first command to transform.
- Enter the following command to gain the ability to become a Vampire Lord: player.addspell 300283b. Then, input player.addspell 301462a to unlock the Vampire Lord's spells.
Live as a vampire.

Balance between positive and negative effects. Every 24 hours after becoming a vampire, you will progress to the next stage. You may pass through four stages, each with a variety of growing positive and negative effects. If you drink blood, you will revert to the first stage.
- Each stage increases your resistance to cold but makes you more sensitive to fire.
- The damage you can sustain from sunlight exposure increases with each stage.
- As you advance through stages, more vampire abilities will unlock, strengthening your powers.
- NPCs become increasingly hostile toward you as you progress, and by the fourth stage, they will attack on sight.

Move during the night. Sunlight will harm you, especially as you reach the later vampire stages. Traveling by night helps you avoid most NPCs. Use your vampire abilities wisely to stay hidden from enemies.

Feed to quench your thirst. To mitigate most of the vampire drawbacks, you need to feed regularly. In the base Skyrim version, you can drink blood from a sleeping person by approaching them and interacting just like when using the Pickpocketing skill. The Feed option will appear, allowing you to feed.
- In the Dawnguard expansion, you can drink from a waking person if you first use the vampire's Seduction spell.
- Feeding will cause witnesses to become hostile toward you, and you will lose 40 gold if caught.
- Feeding on your spouse is an easy way to control your thirst.

Cure vampire disease. Once you've experienced enough of the vampire life, you can take on a special quest to reverse the process. First, ask any alchemist about rumors to learn of Falion, a researcher studying vampires. You can find Falion in Morthal.
- Falion will tell you that the vampire curse can be reversed using a Black Soul Gem filled with a soul. You can fill the Black Soul Gem by using the Soul Trap spell on a human before defeating them. Falion will sell you an empty Black Soul Gem if necessary.
- Bring the filled Soul Gem back to Falion, and he will remove your vampire curse. This process can be repeated as long as you have a Black Soul Gem.

Cure vampire disease using the console (PC only). If you can't complete the quest and are desperate to escape your vampire curse, you can cheat your way out using the console. Open the console by pressing the ~ key.
- Type player.addspell 301462a and press ↵ Enter.
- Then, type showracemenu and change your race. The vampire disease will be cured immediately.
Warning
- It can be quite challenging and time-consuming to cure the vampire condition. It is recommended to save your game before becoming a vampire.
- You cannot be both a werewolf and a vampire at the same time. If you turn into a vampire, your werewolf traits will be cured.
