The process of blocking calls varies depending on the phone you are using. iPhones and certain Android devices have built-in number blocking features. Numerous Android apps also provide call-blocking services. If you are receiving many calls from unknown or private numbers, contact your carrier to inquire about available blocking options. If you have a landline, your carrier might offer different number-blocking options. You can also add your number to the Do Not Call list (for U.S. residents) to prevent telemarketers from contacting you.
Steps
iPhone

Add the contact you want to block to your Contacts list. You can only block a number from your contact list, so you need to add the phone number you want to block to your contacts.

Open the Settings app. You can block calls directly from your iPhone, as long as it is an iPhone 4 or later, running iOS 7 or higher.

Select "Phone" from within the Settings app. This will open up the call-related settings.

Tap on "Blocked". You will see a list of recently blocked phone numbers.

Press "Add New" to add new phone numbers to your block list.

Select the contact to block. Choose the contact you created with the phone number you wish to block.

Use the Do Not Disturb feature to block calls from "Unknown" or "Blocked Number". While iOS doesn’t offer a built-in feature for blocking unknown callers, you can use the Do Not Disturb mode. This allows contacts in your phone’s address book to reach you, but any numbers not in your contacts will be blocked, even if their call is legitimate.
- Open the Settings app.
- Select "Do Not Disturb".
- Toggle the Manual option to ON.
- Tap "Allow Calls From" and select "All Contacts".

Contact your carrier for advanced call-blocking options. If you want to block unknown numbers or require additional blocking features, you should reach out to your customer service center. The blocking options available to you depend on your carrier and the service plan you have.
Android Devices (Samsung, HTC, and LG)

Open the Phone app. For Samsung Galaxy, HTC, or LG devices, you need to add a phone number to the block or auto-reject list. This feature is integrated into these devices, and you must access the Phone app.
- If you are using a phone from a different Android manufacturer or want to block unknown callers, refer to the next section.

Block calls on a Samsung phone. After opening the Phone app, you can block calls on most Samsung devices:
- Tap the More button (⋮) and select "Settings".
- Tap "Call blocking" or "Call rejection" depending on your phone model.
- Tap "Block list" or "Auto reject list".
- Add the phone number you wish to block. You can also add a number from your call history. Select the number that called you, tap ⋮, and then tap "Block settings".

Block calls on an HTC phone. After opening the Phone app, you can block calls from your call history.
- Swipe to the "Call History" tab.
- Press and hold on the caller you wish to block.
- Select "Block Contact" or "Block Caller".

Block calls on an LG phone. You can block calls on your LG Android phone directly from the Phone app.
- Tap the ⋮ button in the Phone app.
- Select "Call Settings" and then tap "Call Reject".
- Tap "Reject calls from".
- Add the number you want to block, either from recent calls or your contacts.

Contact your carrier for additional blocking options. Mobile carriers offer more advanced blocking features than what is available on your device. If the blocking options on your Android phone don’t meet your needs, reach out to your carrier. Options may vary depending on your carrier and service plan.
Other Android Devices

Install a call-blocking app. There are various call-blocking apps available for Android devices. These apps are helpful if your phone doesn’t support blocking or if you want to block unknown or restricted numbers. Popular apps include:
- Mr. Number
- Call Blocker
- Should I Answer?
- Extreme Call Blocker

Run the call-blocking app. The process for blocking numbers depends on the app you choose, but in general, the steps are quite similar across different apps.

Open the app's Settings section. You can block unknown and restricted numbers through the app’s settings menu.

Select to block private or unknown numbers. Simply locate these options in the app’s settings. Calls from numbers listed as "Private" or "Unknown" on the caller ID will be blocked.

Add specific numbers to the block list. You can use the app to add specific phone numbers or contacts from your contact list to the block list. This feature prevents those callers from reaching you.

Adjust schedule settings. Many call-blocking apps allow you to set schedule preferences for blocking calls. You can block all calls during specific time frames.

Reach out to your carrier for more information on additional blocking features. If the apps aren't functioning as expected, you can contact your carrier for details about their blocking services. You can opt to reject all unknown calls or add specific phone numbers to your block list.
- Note that many prepaid plans might not offer the same blocking services as postpaid plans.
Windows Phone

Launch the Phone app. You have the ability to block any number that has already called you. However, blocking unknown or private numbers requires contacting your carrier.

Swipe to the History page. You will see a list of all the recent calls you have received.

Press and hold the number you want to block. A menu will appear shortly after you do so.

Tap on "Block number" (Block Number). The phone number will be added to your block list.
- You can view the list of blocked calls by tapping the "..." button in the Phone app and selecting "blocked calls".

Contact your carrier for additional blocking tools. Mobile carriers offer more advanced blocking options than what is available on your phone. Call customer service and ask about the blocking features available for your plan.
Landline

Get in touch with your carrier. Blocking calls on a landline is a feature provided by the network provider. To enable this feature, you need to contact your telecommunications carrier and inquire about the available options for you.

If you're in the U.S., consider the Anonymous Call Rejection service. This feature allows you to reject private and blocked calls. Depending on your carrier, there may be a charge for this service or it may be free of charge.

Add a phone number to your block list. Most carriers allow you to block specific numbers if you're being harassed by someone. The process may vary depending on your carrier.
- For example, with AT&T mobile service or Verizon landline service in the U.S., you can dial *60 and follow the on-screen instructions to add a number to your block list.

If you're in the U.S., consider the Priority Ringing feature. This feature allows you to set a unique ringtone for specific numbers, helping you decide whether to pick up or not.
