This article will guide you on reducing the number of people who can send you friend requests on Facebook by changing the friend request setting from 'Everyone' to 'Friends of Friends.' While this won't completely block friend requests, it will significantly minimize the number of people who can send you a friend request.
Steps
On a Mobile Device
Open Facebook. The app features a dark blue background with a white 'f' on it. This will open your News Feed if you're already logged into Facebook.
- If you're not logged in, first enter your email address (or phone number) and password.
Tap ☰. The button is located at the bottom-right corner of the screen (iPhone) or the top-right corner (Android).
Scroll down and tap Settings. You'll find this option near the bottom of the menu.
- Skip this step on Android.
Tap on Account Settings. This option is located at the top of the menu (iPhone) or below the ☰ menu (Android).
Tap on Privacy. This option is near the top of the screen.
Tap on Who can send you friend requests?. This option is located near the bottom of the screen.
Tap on Friends of friends. This is the second option near the top of the page. Selecting this will prevent random people outside your friends' network from adding you on Facebook.
On a Computer
Go to the Facebook website. Visit https://www.facebook.com/. If you're already logged in, this will open your News Feed.
- If you're not logged in, first enter your email address (or phone number) and password at the top-right corner of the page.
Click on ▼. The button is located at the top-right corner of the Facebook window.
Click on Settings. This option is near the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Click on Privacy. The tab is located on the left side of the page.
Click on Edit to the right of "Who can contact me?". This section is located in the lower half of the page.
Click on Everyone. This box is located below the "Who can send you friend requests?" heading.
Click on Friends of friends. This option is located under the drop-down menu. This step will set your Facebook friend requests to "Friends of friends," preventing people outside your friends' network from sending you requests.
Tips
- If someone on your friends list keeps sending you requests, you can always block them.
Warning
- You cannot completely block friend requests on Facebook.
