Block Contacts in Settings

- This method is ideal if you want to block someone in your contacts before they have a chance to message you, but it doesn't work for unknown numbers. If you want to block a random phone number, use the first method.

Scroll down and tap on Messages. The option is located in the lower half of the Settings page.

Scroll down and tap on Blocked. The option is in the middle of the page, under the "SMS/MMS" heading.

Scroll down and tap on Add New…. The action is at the bottom of the blocked numbers list.
- If you haven't blocked any numbers yet, scrolling down isn't necessary.

Select a contact. Scroll through your contact list until you find the person you want to block, then tap their name. This will add them to your blocked list.
Filter iMessages from Unknown Senders

Scroll down and tap on Messages. This is the fifth option in the menu.

- In the Messages app, you'll see new tabs at the top: Contacts & SMS and Unknown Senders. Messages sent to the Unknown Senders tab will not trigger notifications.
Tips
- Contact your carrier if you're being harassed. Harassing messages from unknown numbers can be blocked more effectively by reaching out to your carrier, as they have access to more advanced blocking tools.
Warning
- Unfortunately, iOS does not allow blocking all messages except from approved numbers. You can only block specific contacts and numbers that have messaged you before.
- You cannot add phone numbers not in your contacts or those who haven't contacted you to the block list.
