You might suspect that you are under a curse if you frequently have nightmares, encounter signs of doom, suffer from illness, or experience a series of unfortunate events. A curse can be frightening, but there are ways to protect yourself. A salt bath or self-purification can clear away negative energy, including minor curses. Another option is to use a candlelight spell to break the curse or create a small box to return the curse to the person who cast it upon you.
Steps
Salt Bath

Mix about 270 g of sea salt and 30 g of baking soda into a warm bath. Adjust the temperature to your comfort, then add the sea salt and baking soda to the water, allowing them to purify the energy. Stir the water in a clockwise direction until the salt and baking soda fully dissolve.
- There is no need to measure the salt and baking soda exactly. You can scoop 2-3 handfuls of salt and sprinkle a pinch of baking soda.
- Use Epsom salt, sea salt, or Himalayan salt for the bath.
Tip: If you prefer, you can add a few drops of essential oils to the water. Lavender, peppermint, tea tree, sandalwood, and rose oils are wonderful choices for cleansing and purification.

Visualize positive energy flowing into the bath. After completing the chant or prayer, imagine a stream of white light filled with positive energy flowing through the water. Then, picture yourself surrounded by this light, as the bath ritual purifies your energy.
- This light could appear as a bright beam or spread around you.

Recite a chant or prayer before entering the bath. Close your eyes and clasp your hands together in a prayer position or place them gently on the water’s surface. Then, recite a purification chant or prayer to remove negative energy from your body.
- You can chant: “Salt and water, please purify me, bring me the healing power, let this water free me from confusion.”
- Your prayer can be: “Dear Lord/Mother Mary, thank You for Your care. Tonight, I ask You to cleanse the negative energy tainting me. Please break the curse and restore my purity. Amen.”

Soak in the water for at least 30-40 minutes to purify yourself. Step into the bath and immerse yourself in the water. Close your eyes and relax for 30-40 minutes. During this time, envision the white light surrounding you and focus only on positive thoughts.
- If you wish, you can chant or pray while soaking. This helps you concentrate on the purifying power of the ritual.
Energy Cleansing

Use a Selenite wand to sweep across your body. The Selenite wand is a white crystal known for its purifying and cleansing properties. Hold the wand about 15-30 cm away from your body. Sweep it from head to toe to cleanse your aura. Afterward, move your hand inward and push out, as if brushing off the negative energy surrounding you.
- This process helps cleanse your aura of any harmful or attached energy, such as a small curse.
- You can purchase Selenite wands from crystal shops, metaphysical stores, or online.

Burn a bundle of sage and use a feather to fan the smoke around your body. Place the bundle in a fireproof dish. Light one end of the sage and blow out the flame to let it smolder. Use a feather to wave the smoke around your body, from head to toe.
- Sage is commonly used for purification and cleansing, rooted in Native American traditions. It can be used to cleanse yourself or a space from negative energy.
Variation: If you prefer, you can hold the sage bundle and wave it around your body.

Recite a purification chant or prayer. While purifying yourself, recite a chant or prayer asking to be freed from the curse or negative energy. In your chant or prayer, affirm that you know the curse will be broken, adding power to the ritual.
- You can chant: “Air, Water, Fire, Earth, please answer my call, expel this curse and make me pure, tonight I accept the healing blessing.”
- Your prayer could be: “Holy spirit, please cleanse me from the evil energy and break this curse. I know I will be freed. Amen.”

Place a candle in a large bowl and fill it with water up to just 2.5 cm above the candle. Choose a suitably sized bowl and position the candle at the bottom. A tall pillar candle works best, but any candle will suffice. Next, fill the bowl with water, leaving about 2.5 cm of the candle exposed above the surface for the ritual.
- Black candles are ideal for this, if you have one. You can also purchase black candles from grocery stores, metaphysical shops, or online.

Sprinkle a handful of salt around the candle in the water. Take salt in your hand and slowly sprinkle it into the water surrounding the candle. Feel free to add more salt to enhance the purifying power of the spell.
- While regular table salt can be used, it's best to opt for sea salt or Epsom salt if available. These are less processed and retain their purifying properties.

Visualize a stream of white light flowing through the water. Look into the bowl and imagine a beam of white light flowing through the water. Picture this light as pure and positive energy. While visualizing, take slow, deep breaths.
- In Pagan tradition, the goal of this ritual is to imbue the water with positive energy, making the spell more effective.

Light the candle, then recite the chant or prayer. Light the candle with a match or lighter. Once the candle is burning, begin chanting or praying to break the curse. Make sure to finish the chant before the candle burns out.
- You can chant: “Air, Wood, Water, Fire, please answer my call, expel this curse and purify me, tonight I accept the healing blessing.”
- Alternatively, pray: “Holy spirit, please cleanse me of negative energy and break this curse. I know I will be freed. Amen.”

Let the candle burn to the water's surface and extinguish itself. Do not blow out the candle; instead, let it burn until it reaches the water. The water will naturally extinguish the flame. Your spell is nearly complete.
- In Pagan tradition, allowing the candle to burn out on its own enhances the power of the spell and keeps the magic stable.

Break the candle in half and bury it outside. Remove the candle from the bowl of water and split it into two halves. Then, take both the bowl of water and the candle outside. Dig a small hole and bury the candle there.
- Burying the candle is the final step in completing the spell to break the curse.

Pour the water from the bowl into a circle around the place where the candle was buried. Slowly pour the water from the bowl in a circular motion around the spot where the candle was buried. If there’s still water left, pour another circle. This step seals the spell.
- The salt in the water may cause the grass around the burial site to wither.
Create a mirror box

Prepare a small box, such as a candy box or jewelry box. You will need a small box that is easy to hold, and it should be something you no longer need. A candy box, jewelry box, or small wooden box works perfectly.
- Make sure the box is clean. Wipe it down with a wet cloth before use.
- You can purchase an unfinished small wooden box at a craft store.
- Alternatively, you can repurpose a cosmetic box or an empty lotion jar.

Buy a small mirror and avoid looking into it. Purchase a small mirror that fits perfectly inside the box. Ideally, it should cover the entire lid of the box. Try not to look into the mirror, as it may trap your energy inside the box.
- You may need several small mirrors to fully cover the inside of the box.
- If you accidentally look into the mirror, don’t worry. If this happens, burn white sage and wave it over the mirror to purify it.

Glue the mirror inside the box lid. You can use a hot glue gun, super glue, or white glue to affix the mirror. Hold the mirror firmly in place, making sure you do not look into it.
- You can cover the mirror with black fabric to avoid accidentally gazing into it. However, be careful not to glue the fabric onto the mirror.
Variation: Some people prefer to break the mirror before gluing it into the box. Wrap the mirror in black fabric and use a hammer or heavy object to break it. Then, glue the shattered pieces into the box.

Place the item representing the person who cursed you into the box. If you know who cursed you, place something representing that person inside the box. If not, use a small doll or a piece of paper with the words “The Cursed One” written on it. Place this item facing the mirror inside the box. Here are some things that can serve as a representation:
- A photo of the person
- A small doll
- Hair from the person
- Personal items of the person
- The person's name
Tip: If using a photo, stick it to the bottom of the box so that their face faces the mirror.

Seal the box and place a black candle on top. Close the box and seal it if possible. Then, place a black candle on top of the box to complete the spell. Any size candle will work.
- If the box is smaller than the candle, place the candle next to the box instead.
- You can purchase black candles at grocery stores, metaphysical shops, or online.

Recite the incantation or prayer to reverse the curse. After completing the mirror box, recite the incantation or prayer to express your intention of reversing the curse, sending the negative energy back to the person who cast it on you.
- You can chant: “Sower of wind, threat maker, after this chant, you shall reap the storm. The mirror reflects your malice, while my hands are clean, my heart is whole. This chant sets me free, light as a speck of dust.”
- You can pray: “Holy spirits, I ask for the one who cast this curse to receive back the energy they’ve sent me. After this plea, all the negative energy they sent will return to them. Amen.”

Light the candle and let it burn out completely. Use a match or lighter to light the candle. Then, let it burn until it extinguishes itself. This process may take some time depending on the size of the candle.
- Do not leave the candle burning unattended. If you must leave before it’s completely burned, use a jar to extinguish the flame instead of blowing it out. You wouldn’t want to undo all your work with a breath.
Advice
- Sometimes, everyone must go through negative experiences, so it may not necessarily be a curse. However, taking proactive steps isn’t a bad thing as long as it doesn’t harm others.
- If you grew up in an environment that constantly made you feel guilty or made you believe you deserved bad luck, then you might be self-curse through self-fulfilling prophecy. But if you know it’s not your fault, don’t let others call you paranoid or say you’re imagining things. Believe in yourself, raise your vibrational frequency, and set intentions for the best things to come (adapt to this mindset).
