Steps
Level the ground (if necessary) and install concrete blocks in a grid pattern to support the shed's foundation. These blocks will hold the floor joists beneath the shed. In the illustrated design, the spacing between blocks in one direction is 1.5 meters, while in the other direction, it is 1 meter, resulting in an overall grid size of approximately x 2.5 meters. This size is practical because, when arranging the supports in a grid, you will need three standard plywood sheets, ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 meters, to fit on top.
- Note that in some countries, you may need a permit before laying the foundation for a structure. To avoid this, you can build the shed directly on the ground by replacing the joists (see below) with pressure-treated and ground-contact-rated wooden blocks measuring 10 x 15 cm, or by using pre-cast concrete fence posts.
Install support beams along the concrete blocks. These beams will hold the floor joists, as the joists will be installed perpendicular to them. The simplest way to attach the beams to the blocks is by using metal brackets with pre-drilled holes. In the illustrated design, the beams are approximately meters long.
Attach the floor joists to the support beams and separate them using wooden shimsbeam edgefloor joistbetweenhalfwooden shimsNail the plywood sheets to the joists to form the floor. If necessary, use H-clips to secure the plywood in place; H-clips fit between two plywood sheets and lock them together, enhancing structural strength. In the design template, two standard 1.2 to 2.5-meter plywood sheets are used entirely, with a third sheet cut in half to fill the 1.2-meter gap at both ends. Due to the spacing between the blocks, support beams, and smaller joists, no additional cutting or alignment is needed. Note that the plywood sheets are intentionally staggered so that the floor joints do not run across the entire floor, which is a critical structural point.

Install roof rafters and separate them using wooden shims. The rafters will extend beyond the shed walls to enhance weather resistance. Additionally, you can simplify measurements by spacing the rafters similarly to how you spaced the floor joists. Once completed, add shims between each pair of rafters along the top beams.
Nail plywood sheets to the rafters to form the roof. If the roof overhangs, the plywood used for the floor may need to be adjusted.
Cover the walls. You can use exterior siding, rough plywood, or other materials to give the shed a more finished appearance.
Apply roofing felt to the roof. Start from the lowest slope of the roof and work your way up, ensuring each new layer overlaps the previous one to prevent rainwater from seeping through gaps. You can also use shingles or other materials if preferred.
Tips
- Ensure your shed is well-ventilated.
- Consider painting or sealing to extend the shed's lifespan.
- Avoid narrowing the window space.
- If you plan to finish the interior, add corner braces to nailed surfaces.
- A sloped ramp instead of steps can make it easier to move wheeled equipment in and out of the shed.
- You can install corrugated skylights to allow natural light.

- Choose a suitable location. There are two types of shed builders; the first type selects a location based on aesthetics, while the second prioritizes available space. Unfortunately, the latter approach may not be the most effective for choosing your shed's location.
