Honeyside is one of the few properties available for purchase in Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This quaint wooden house is located within the town of Riften. Once acquired, your character will use this home as their residence in the city and become the Thane. You can only buy Honeyside after completing certain requirements related to the town of Riften, and these quests are usually not too difficult or complicated.
Steps

Head to the city of Riften. Riften is one of the major cities in the Skyrim world that the Dragonborn (your character) must visit. It is located in the southeastern part of the map, and you can either walk or ride a horse there.

Enter the city and head toward Riften Fishery. Here, you will encounter an Argonian woman (a reptilian race) named Wujeeta.

Talk to the Argonian woman. She will inform you that she is sick due to using Skooma. Simply give her a potion and gather information about the Skooma dealer through persuasion, intimidation, or bribery.
- If you’re not familiar, Skooma is an illegal drug in Skyrim. The Skooma quest is part of the game’s storyline and begins early in the game.

Speak to the Jarl of Riften. After obtaining information from Wujeeta, head to the castle within the city and talk to the Jarl (Laila Law-Giver) about the Skooma lead.
- Later, the Jarl will order you to eliminate the Skooma dealer (a separate task).
- If you’ve completed the Civil War questline for the Imperial side, the Jarl here will be Maven Black-Briar.

Eliminate the Skooma dealer. The Jarl will provide you with the key to a warehouse located outside of Riften. Head to the warehouse and deal with the Skooma dealer.
- This target is quite weak and can be easily defeated.

Return to the Jarl. After informing the Jarl that you’ve completed the task, she will ask you to assist several Riften citizens. Leave the castle and find people to help.
- You need to help at least 3-5 people with various tasks, which are simple and easy to complete.
- Some of the simpler tasks include helping Sniff and Edda, who only require a small donation. Other tasks, like collecting ingredients or items, will require talking to passersby for more details.

Return to the Jarl once more. The Jarl will reward you by making you Thane (a local hero) for assisting the citizens of Riften, but before doing so, she will mention that a Thane must be a Riften resident. The Jarl will then inform you of a property you can purchase.

Speak to the Steward. You can purchase a house from him for 8,000 gold.

Return to the Jarl. At this point, she will grant you the title of Thane and provide you with a Housecarl (Iona), an NPC who is not controllable but is tasked with protecting your home.
Tips
- If you are arrested for a minor crime, you can have the guards back off by declaring your title as Thane.
- Speak to the Steward to purchase additional items for your house, such as an alchemy lab and a bedroom. Otherwise, your house will remain empty.
- Buying Honeyside is a feature included in the base game. You don’t need to download any expansions to purchase the house.
