How to Change Your Name on Skype

This article explains how to update your name on Skype – the name that others see in their contact list. You can change your display name on the Skype web version and mobile app, but it is not possible to do this using the Skype software on Windows and Mac computers. To change your login name, you will need to create a new account.

Open the Skype website. Go to https://www.skype.com/ using your web browser. If you are already logged into Skype, you will see your username at the top-right corner of the page.

• If you're not logged in, click Sign in in the top-right corner and enter your email address and password.

Click on your name at the top-right corner of the page to open the dropdown menu.

• If you are required to sign in to Skype, you can skip this step and the next one.

Edit your name. Enter your new first name and/or last name in the appropriate field near the top of the "Personal information" section.

Click the Save button in green at the top-right corner of the page. This action will save and apply the changes to your Skype account. Once Skype reconnects to the network, your updated name will be visible immediately.

Launch Skype. Tap the Skype app, which has the white "S" icon on a blue background, to open Skype's home page if you're already logged in.

• If you're not logged in yet, you'll need to enter your email address (or username or phone number) and password before proceeding.

Change your name. Use the on-screen keyboard to type in your new desired name.

• You can change another user's name in your contact list by clicking their profile picture and entering a new name.

• If another user changes your name in their contact list, the name you've updated will not appear on their Skype interface.
