Want to update your Skype profile picture? It’s simple—just a few clicks and you can change your Skype avatar. However, the process may vary depending on the version of Skype and the type of device you’re using, whether it’s a Mac or a PC. Below, we’ll guide you through the steps to change your profile picture on Skype for each type of device. Just follow these instructions.
Steps
Changing the Picture in Windows 7

Open Skype and click on the "Skype" option in the menu bar. Make sure you’re using Skype version 5.3 or higher.

Click on "Profile" and select "Change Your Picture." The options will appear in a dropdown menu.

Take a new photo or browse for an old one on your device. If your device has a camera and you want to use a new photo, simply select this option. Otherwise, use the browse feature to find the image you want from your existing photos.

Select the image you want to set as your profile picture and click Open.

Click "Use this picture." This action will update your profile picture to the one you’ve selected.
Changing the Picture in Windows 8

Open Skype. Ensure you’re running Skype version 5.3 or later.

Click on your profile icon. The profile menu bar will appear.

Select a new photo. Navigate to the folder containing the image you want to use and browse until you find it. Check the box next to the photo you wish to set.

Click "Open."

You have successfully updated your profile picture.
Changing Your Profile Picture in Skype for Windows Desktop (Windows 8 or 8.1)

Open the Skype application.

At the top right corner of the homepage, you’ll see a small circle containing your current profile picture (if you haven’t set one, it will display a blue and white person icon). (This is also where Skype shows your online status.)

Click on this circle to expand the window displaying your picture, Skype name, and email address.

Click on your profile picture, and you’ll be directed to the Pictures folder on your computer to select a suitable image. Choose the image you want and click "Open" at the bottom right corner.

Your profile picture will automatically update.

Warning: If you don’t want to proceed with changing your profile picture, you can click "Cancel" instead of selecting "Open." If you reselect your current profile picture and then click "Open," previous settings will be reset, and you’ll need to reconfigure them, such as adjusting the zoom level.
Changing Your Profile Picture on Mac

Open Skype. Ensure you’re running Skype version 5.3 or later.

Click on your profile picture or name in the top-left corner of the profile section. Clicking it will open a new page allowing you to change your profile picture.

Double-click on your profile picture to edit it.

Add or change your profile picture. There are three different ways to add or change your picture:
- Click the dropdown menu of recent pictures to select one you’ve used before.
- Click the camera button to take a photo using your webcam. Count down from 3-1 and smile.
- Select the "Choose..." button to browse for an image saved in a different folder.

Click "Set" to save the picture. If you’re not satisfied with how the image looks, you can adjust its size by moving the slider back and forth. After this step, you’ve successfully updated your profile picture.
Tips
- There’s another way to change your profile picture. Click on Skype, go to Profile, select Edit Your Profile, then click the "Choose picture from file" button, and continue from step #4.
