This article provides a step-by-step guide on updating your YouTube profile picture. Since your YouTube account is connected to your Google account, you can modify your profile picture by editing it through Google. Simply log in to your Google account via the YouTube platform.
Steps
Using a Computer
Visit https://www.youtube.com/ using a web browser. You can use any browser on your personal computer or Mac.
- If you're not logged into YouTube, click the Sign In button at the top-right corner of the screen, then enter your YouTube/Google account email and password.
Click on your profile picture. Your profile picture is the circular image located at the top-right corner of the YouTube page. This action will open a dropdown menu for your account.
- If you haven't set a profile picture for your Google account, it will display a colored circle with the initial of your name in the center.
Settings
Select Edit on Google. This option is located next to your account name and profile picture in the Settings menu. Clicking it will redirect you to the "About Me" page on your Google account.
Click on the photo or choose Upload photo. If you already have photos uploaded to Google Photos or Google Drive, you can select one of them as your profile picture. To upload a new photo, click Upload photo.
Choose a photo and click Open. When you select "Upload photo," a file browser window will open. From here, navigate to the desired photo on your computer, select it, and click the Open button at the bottom-right corner to upload and display it in the pop-up menu.
Press Done. This button is located at the top-right corner of the "Pick a photo" pop-up menu. Clicking it will set the selected image as your profile picture across all Google services, including YouTube.
Using a Mobile Device
Open the YouTube app. The YouTube app icon features a white triangle inside a red rectangle, resembling a TV screen. Tap this icon on your home screen to launch the app.
Tap on your profile picture. Your profile picture is the circular image at the top-right corner of the YouTube app. This action will open your account menu.
Tap on your profile picture again. Your profile picture will now appear at the top-left corner of the account menu.
Select Take a photo or Choose from your photos. You can either capture a new photo or select one from your gallery or camera. Follow these steps to take a new photo or choose an existing one.
- Take a photo
- Tap Take a photo.
- Use the camera app to capture a photo (You may need to tap Allow to grant YouTube access to your camera).
- Tap Ok or Use Photo.
- Adjust the photo to fit within the square frame.
- Tap Save or Use Photo.
- Choose a photo
- Tap Choose from your photos.
- Select the desired photo.
- Adjust the photo to fit within the square frame.
- Tap Save or Use Photo.
Tips
- Your YouTube profile picture must be at least 250 pixels by 250 pixels in size.
Warnings
- Rectangular images, which are longer in shape, serve as your YouTube channel banner. You can change this image by clicking on it, but it won't appear next to comments or your account name when uploading videos.
- When creating a new YouTube account, you must agree to Google's Terms of Service. For example, you agree not to share login credentials with anyone and to limit disputes or channel name changes.
