Today, Mytour will guide you on how to check the usage of your Random Access Memory (RAM) and storage capacity on your computer.
Steps
Check RAM usage on Windows

Press Alt+Ctrl and Delete. The Windows Task Manager will open up.

Click on Task Manager (Task Manager). This is the last option on the page.

Click on the Performance tab. This option is located at the top of the "Task Manager" window.

Click on the Memory tab at the top right of the "Task Manager" window. Here you can see how much of your computer's RAM is in use, either in the graph near the top or in the statistics under the heading "In use (Compressed)".
Check hard drive usage on Windows

Double-click on "My PC", which usually has the computer screen icon on your desktop.
- On some versions of Windows, "My PC" is labeled as "My Computer".
- If you can't find "My PC" on your desktop, type "My PC" into the search bar in the Start menu, then click the computer screen icon when the option appears.

Right-click on the hard drive icon C:. This option is located below the "Devices and drives" section on the "My Computer" page.
- On some versions of Windows, the hard drive may be labeled "OS".

Click on Properties (Properties). This option is at the bottom of the right-click menu.

Click on the General (General) tab. This option is at the top of the "Properties" window. The "General" tab will display the hard drive's properties, including its total memory capacity.

View the hard drive's storage. The "Used space" indicates the number of GB occupied by data, while "Free space" shows the remaining GB on the hard drive.
- You might notice a difference between the total GB listed for the hard drive and the GB advertised when purchasing the computer. This discrepancy occurs because a portion of the hard drive is reserved for the operating system; that part of the storage is not available for use, hence it isn't listed.
Check RAM usage on Mac

Click on the "Spotlight" magnifying glass icon located at the top right corner of your screen.

Type "Activity Monitor" into the search bar. The "Activity Monitor" application will appear.

Click on Activity Monitor. The Activity Monitor app will open, and you'll be able to view the current RAM consumption of your Mac.

Click on Memory. This tab is located at the top of the Activity Monitor window.

Look at the "Memory Used" figure at the bottom of the page. The "Physical Memory" here shows the total RAM installed on your Mac, while the "Memory Used" indicates the RAM currently in use by your Mac.
Check the storage capacity on your Mac

Click on the Apple menu icon located at the top left corner of your Mac's screen.

Click on About This Mac (About This Mac). This option is near the top of the dropdown menu.

Click on Storage (Storage). This option is located near the top of the "About This Mac" window. In the "Storage" tab, you will find a color-coded chart displaying the types of files consuming your storage space.
- You can also see the current available storage in the top right corner, under "X GB free of Y GB", where "X" represents the free storage available on your Mac, and "Y" is the total storage capacity of your Mac.
Check the storage capacity on your iPhone

Open the Settings app on your iPhone. It has a gray gear icon on the Home screen.
- Due to the limitations of the operating system, it's not possible to view RAM usage on an iPhone.

Tap on General near the bottom of the screen.

Tap on Storage & iCloud Usage at the bottom of the screen.

Tap on Manage Storage (Storage management) in the "Storage" section at the top of the page. A list of apps ordered from the most memory-consuming to the least will appear. Additionally, the "Used" and "Available" sections at the top will show the amount of memory used and available on your iPhone (in order).
- Tap the second Manage Storage option on the page to open the iCloud section, where you can view the available storage on your iCloud Drive.
Check memory and RAM usage on Android

Open the Settings app on your Android device. The app has a gray gear icon and can be found in the App Drawer.

Scroll down and tap on Apps (Applications). This option is located under the "Device" section.
- On some Android devices (like Samsung Galaxy), you will need to tap on Device first before selecting Apps.

Swipe left on the "Apps" page. The "SD Card" tab will appear, displaying the amount of storage currently used on the memory card at the bottom left and the total memory at the bottom right of the screen.

Swipe left on the "SD Card" page. The "Running" tab will appear, showing the programs that are currently running on the device.

Review other sections. At the top of the page, you will see three values representing the RAM usage of the Android device:
- System – The amount of GB occupied by the device's operating system.
- Apps – The amount of GB being used by running applications.
- Free – The remaining available GB of RAM.
Advice
- RAM is memory allocated for various processes (such as applications or programs) to operate. On the other hand, hard drive storage keeps all files, folders, or programs on the computer – regardless of whether they are running or not.
Warning
- If any malicious process is consuming a significant portion of memory, you should scan your device with antivirus software.
- Only remove processes you are certain are not vital system components. Accidentally deleting essential files or data needed for the operating system to run could cause irreparable damage.
