Almost everyone has faced the challenge of buying a hat: The hat looks fantastic and incredibly stylish on the mannequin, but you painfully realize that it doesn't suit you at all when you try it on. Then, you find yourself stuck in a frustrating cycle where every hat seems awkward or silly on you. You become obsessed with hats. It's time to start fresh and continue the adventure. By selecting a favorite hat based on your face shape, you can add sophistication and sharpness to your appearance.
Steps
Measure Your Face Dimensions

Measure your forehead. Use a tape measure to measure across your forehead. Measure from the peak of one eyebrow arch to the peak of the opposite eyebrow arch. Record the measurement.

Measure your cheekbones. Using a tape measure, determine the distance between your cheekbones. Start and end at the prominent point below the outer corner of each eye. Record the measurement.

Measure your jawline. Use a tape measure to measure from the tip of your chin to the base of your ear. Stop where your jaw angles upward. Multiply this number by 2. Record the result. This is your 'lower jaw contour.'

Measure the length of your face. With a tape measure, determine the distance from the center of your forehead (at the hairline) to the tip of your chin. Write down this measurement.

Ask yourself three questions. Use these measurements as a guide and ask yourself the following:
- What is the widest part of your face?
- What shape is your jawline?
- How long is your face? Is it longer than it is wide, and if so, by how much?
Determine Your Face Shape

Identify an 'oval face shape'. An oval face is about one and a half times longer than it is wide. The forehead is slightly broader than the jawline, and the jaw angles are more rounded. An oval face resembles the shape of an egg.

Look for a 'round face shape'. A round face has nearly equal width and length. It features a rounded chin, full cheeks, and a curved hairline. This face shape tends to give a youthful appearance compared to others.

Spot a 'long face shape'. A long face is longer than it is wide. The forehead, cheekbones, and jawline of a long face are similar in width. This face shape may also include a high forehead.

Recognize a 'heart-shaped face'. This face shape is quite common. In a heart-shaped face, the chin is the narrowest part. It typically has a broad forehead and/or wide cheekbones with a pointed chin.

Find a 'square face shape'. A square face has nearly equal length and width. The distance from the forehead to the chin and from cheek to cheek is almost the same.

Identify a 'triangular face shape'. Characteristics of a triangular face include a prominent jawline, slightly narrower cheekbones, and the smallest forehead. This face shape can vary in length and is often referred to as a pear-shaped face.
Selecting the perfect hat for your face shape

Choosing hats for an 'oval face shape'. Feel free to experiment with any hat style! You're fortunate to have a versatile appearance. Select any hat that matches your mood, as long as it complements your outfit. Women with oval faces can wear virtually any hat style.

Selecting hats for a 'round face shape'. Introduce asymmetry to your look. You can confidently wear soft hats, newsboy caps, or baseball caps. This symmetrical face shape benefits from a new angle: asymmetry. The roundness of the face requires styling to create a slimmer appearance.

Choosing hats for a 'long face shape'. Opt for hats with wide brims and low crowns, such as sun hats, cloche hats, or floppy hats with large brims. The wide brim of a sun hat can help reduce the perceived length of your face.

Selecting hats for a 'heart-shaped face'. Opt for hats with moderately wide brims, such as floppy hats with medium brims, boaters, cloche hats, fedoras, beanies, or berets. These are excellent choices! These hats will help balance the width of your forehead.

Choosing hats for a 'square face'. Experiment with rounded hat styles. Your angular and symmetrical face benefits from rounded features to soften its edges. Hats with rounded crowns and brims will do the trick, adding softness to your boxy face and creating an illusion of length and roundness.

Picking hats for a 'triangular face'. Feel free to try various hat styles. Similar to an oval face, a triangular face offers nearly endless hat options. Ensure your hat balances your shoulders and complements your outfit.
