Eyelash extensions give you stunning eyes without the need for lengthy morning makeup routines. Care for them diligently to maintain their beauty and durability. Cleaning them is straightforward, but it’s crucial to prevent irritation, infections, eyelid inflammation, or other issues that could harm your eyes. To care for your extensions, gently cleanse them with a mild cleanser, then brush them smoothly and dry them properly.
Steps
Cleaning Eyelash Extensions

Use a gentle facial cleanser. Opt for an oil-free and alcohol-free lash cleanser. Oil-based cleansers can break down the lash adhesive. You can use a foaming cleanser, mild facial soap, or baby shampoo to clean your lashes.
- Be cautious with baby shampoo as it may dry out your lashes.
- Dilute a foaming cleanser with water for a gentler solution.
- Look for cleansers specifically designed for eyelash extensions.

Cleanse the eyelash extensions. Start by wetting your lashes with warm water, then apply a small amount of cleanser to your fingertips and gently massage it onto your lashes and eyelids. Avoid horizontal motions or pulling on the lashes to prevent damage or premature shedding.
- Don’t forget to clean your eyelids thoroughly, as this area tends to accumulate bacteria and dirt.

Avoid using cotton pads or makeup remover pads. Refrain from using cotton pads or makeup remover pads to clean your extensions, as cotton fibers can get stuck on the lashes, requiring careful removal. Additionally, avoid wiping your lashes with wet wipes, as they can loosen or break the extensions.
Drying and Brushing the Lashes

Let the lashes air dry naturally. After cleansing, gently pat your face dry with a towel, avoiding the eye area to protect the extensions. Allow the lashes to air dry. To speed up the process, you can wrap tissue paper around your finger and lightly dab the lashes.
- For extra care, place the lashes on a tissue for a few seconds to absorb excess moisture.

Blow-dry the lashes. Set your blow dryer to the coolest setting and dry each side of your lashes for about 10 seconds. Keep the dryer at arm’s length and avoid frequent use to protect the lash adhesive.

Brush the lashes. Close one eye and use a clean, dry mascara wand to gently roll over the lashes, then lightly brush them to smooth them out. Be careful not to brush too close to the lash roots.
Caring for Eyelash Extensions

Clean the extensions regularly. If daily cleaning isn’t possible, make time to wash them at least a few times a week. Rinse the lashes with warm water, then brush them to remove any accumulated dirt. Simply follow the steps above: rinse with warm water and gently brush them smooth.

Avoid getting oil on the lashes. Prevent moisturizing products like shampoo, conditioner, glycerin, or thick creams from coming into contact with your lashes or eyelids. For example, tilt your head back while showering to keep these products away from your eyes. Additionally, apply a thin layer of 70% isopropyl alcohol to the lashes once a week to remove excess oil from sweat caused by regular exercise.

Avoid rubbing your eyes. Refrain from pulling, rubbing, or tugging on the lashes. Doing so carelessly can loosen the extensions and make them messy. If your lashes itch or cause discomfort, visit your lash technician to have them removed properly.

Be cautious with eye makeup. Avoid cream-based eyeshadows and opt for powder formulas instead, focusing application on the outer corners of your eyes. Steer clear of liquid eyeliners and, most importantly, avoid mascara, as it can damage the extensions and make them stiff and brittle.
