This article will guide you through the process of connecting Bluetooth accessories such as headphones, speakers, watches, or other devices to your iPhone. It also includes some troubleshooting tips in case you face any issues while using the device.
Steps
Connecting to iPhone

Turn on the Bluetooth accessory. Make sure the Bluetooth accessory is fully charged and powered on before attempting to connect. Depending on the type of accessory, you may need to press a button or slide a switch to power it on.
- Ensure that the Bluetooth accessory and your iPhone are within close range. The ideal distance may vary depending on the accessory, but it should generally be no more than 9 meters.

Set the accessory to pairing mode. The accessory must be in pairing mode for your iPhone to detect it. Some accessories automatically switch to pairing mode when powered on, while others require you to press a button or select a setting from the menu. Typically, you can tell the accessory is in pairing mode by the blinking LED indicator. For example, the light will flash when the device is ready to pair.
- If you're unsure whether pairing mode is activated, consult the user manual.
- "Pairing mode" is sometimes referred to as "search mode" or "put the device into search mode".

Open the Control Center on your iPhone. For iPhone X or newer models, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen. For older iPhone models, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

Tap Bluetooth to turn it on (if it’s off). If you see the word "Off" beneath the Bluetooth icon, tap the icon to turn it on. Bluetooth will be activated when the icon turns blue.
- If you don’t see this option, it’s possible that you’re using an older version of iOS. To connect to an accessory, you’ll need to open Settings, select Bluetooth, and toggle the Bluetooth slider to the "On" position (green). After doing this, proceed to step 8.

Tap on the accessory’s name to start pairing. If no password is required for the connection, you can immediately begin using the Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone. If prompted for a password, check the accessory’s user manual (or the screen, if available). Common default passwords are 0000, 1111, and 1234. Try one of these if you can’t find the password.
- Now that the accessory is connected, you’ll always see the option to connect it from the Bluetooth menu. You won’t need to reconnect the devices unless you choose to disconnect or "forget" the accessory on your iPhone.
- Keep the accessory close to your iPhone while using it. The devices need to be within range to maintain the connection.
Troubleshoot Bluetooth Issues

Restart the Bluetooth accessory. If the accessory is not showing as an available connection option, it may no longer be in pairing mode. Sometimes, accessories automatically turn off after waiting too long to connect to the iPhone. Try restarting the accessory and enabling pairing mode again.

Disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth device. If you see the accessory's name in the connection options on your iPhone but are unable to connect, try selecting 'Forget This Device' to reconnect. Here are the steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Choose Bluetooth.
- Tap the blue 'i' icon next to the accessory's name.
- Select Forget This Device.
- Tap the back button.
- Restart the accessory and enable pairing mode.
- Choose the accessory’s name on your iPhone to reconnect.

Restart Bluetooth on the iPhone. In some cases, your iPhone may be the issue preventing the connection. Open the Control Center and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it off, then turn it back on. If this doesn't solve the issue, try restarting your iPhone and attempt the connection again.

Update to the latest iOS version. If your iPhone hasn't been updated in a while, it's important to do so to use the accessory you're trying to connect. Connect your iPhone to power and Wi-Fi, and refer to the iOS update guide for instructions.
