How to Connect a Soundbar to Your Computer

This wiki page provides a step-by-step guide to help you connect your soundbar to a Windows computer.

Turn on the soundbar.

• If the soundbar is battery-powered, insert the batteries and then press the power button.
• If the soundbar uses an AC power source, plug the power cable into a wall socket or extension cord, and then press the power button.

Set the soundbar to pairing mode. The steps to do this may vary depending on the model, but generally, you'll need to press a button on the soundbar for your computer to detect it.

• Check the user manual for specific instructions for your soundbar model.
• Some soundbars automatically enter pairing mode.

Open Action Center in Windows 10. It’s the square speech bubble located to the right of the clock on the taskbar, usually at the bottom of the screen. A small number may appear on the icon.

Turn on Bluetooth. Find the "Bluetooth" tile, which has a small icon resembling a tilted bow tie.

• If the tile is light-colored and displays "Not Connected" (or shows the name of a connected device), Bluetooth is already on.
• If the tile reads "Bluetooth" and is dark, click it to turn on Bluetooth.

Click on the Connect tile in Action Center. This option features an icon with a computer screen and speaker. Windows will start scanning for available devices.

Click on the soundbar when it appears. This action will connect your computer to the soundbar. Once connected, all audio will be routed through the soundbar.

• Once paired, the computer will automatically connect to the soundbar whenever it's within range.

Insert one end of the Toslink cable into the soundbar. If your soundbar has a Toslink port (also known as an optical audio port), you can use an optical audio cable to connect it to your computer. The port is usually labeled "TOSLINK" or "OPTICAL."

• Toslink is a standard optical audio cable commonly used to connect home theater systems to digital electronics, such as DVD players.

Insert the other end of the Toslink cable into your computer. The port is typically labeled "TOSLINK," "OPTICAL," or "DIGITAL AUDIO OUT." If you're using a desktop, it will usually be located at the back. For laptops, the port might be on one of the sides. Once connected, all audio will be transmitted to the soundbar.

• Some thin laptops may not have a Toslink port.
