Many modern household devices such as smartphones, TVs, computers, and gaming consoles can connect to the internet. With a high-speed internet source like broadband, you can easily link these devices wirelessly, allowing them to access the internet from any room in your house. You can learn how to connect Wi-Fi at home by plugging a wireless router into your network modem.
Steps
Connect to the Internet

Ensure that all devices you want to use are activated for wireless connectivity. Most devices made after the mid-2000s are Wi-Fi compatible.
- Wi-Fi-enabled devices are not limited to laptops and smartphones. Televisions, gaming consoles, and media-streaming devices like Roku and iPads can also be set up on your local Wi-Fi network (LAN).

Sign up for a high-speed Internet connection. Monthly services for this range from 200,000 VND upwards, depending on the provider and package. In addition to using cables to connect to the internet, you can also set up a Wi-Fi connection.
- Ensure that your internet service provider has installed a network modem for you before connecting to Wi-Fi. You will need to link the modem to a wireless router.
Wireless Router

Purchase a wireless router for your internet connection. You can buy routers online or at tech stores such as Best Buy or electronic markets like Vinmart, Điện Máy Xanh, and others.

Select the appropriate wireless router based on your connection and internet usage needs.
- Buy an 802.11N router if you use the internet at a moderate level and need decent speed. This type can use either a 2.4 gigahertz or 5 gigahertz connection.
- Buy an 802.11B or 802.11G router if you know your internet connection is 2.4 gigahertz and you don't plan to upgrade to a faster connection in the future.
- Consider purchasing an 802.11ac wireless router if you spend most of your time online and always want faster speeds.

If your computer lacks a wireless network card, consider purchasing a wireless network adapter. If your desktop or laptop is older than 2006, you may need to install a network card or purchase a USB adapter.
Wireless Network

Turn off your service provider's modem. This is the small device they have installed to connect your home to the internet service.
- Simply disconnect the power supply. Do not unplug the network cable from the wall.

Plug the wireless router into the power cord. Make sure you have space for it near the modem. A small light will illuminate once the power is on.

Connect the wireless router to the modem using an Ethernet cable. This cable is typically used to connect computers to the internet. The cable end will snap into place when inserted correctly.
- If you were previously using an Ethernet cable to connect the router to a desktop, you’ll need to unplug it and connect it to the wireless router. You can use an adapter to link to the Wi-Fi network.
- If you were using a router to connect to the internet, you can simply replace it with a wireless router.

Reconnect the modem to the wall. Wait a few minutes for it to restart.
Wireless network configuration

Locate the manual for your wireless router. You will find a URL that you can type in to set up and configure your wireless connection.

Launch the Internet browser on your Wi-Fi-enabled device. Type in the URL provided in the manual.
- It’s advisable to use the computer you intend to make the primary device in your wireless network. For example, you might choose a desktop over a small laptop since you’ll be accessing it more often.

Follow the manual’s instructions to establish a name and password. You’ll need to select a unique name for the connection, known as the SSID.

Follow the guide to set up a protective password. This ensures that only family members can access your network and its connection.
Connect the device

If needed, set up the wireless integration device on the device you intend to use.

Sign in to the device you wish to connect to.

Click on the Network Connection menu, Airport, or Wireless Connection.

Select the SSID and enter the password. You will be connected.

Repeat this process for each device you wish to connect.
