This guide explains how to connect your computer to the internet using mobile data from an iPhone or Android device. This method is called "tethering" (sharing a connection). However, not all network providers support tethering. If your provider does, keep in mind that tethering data usage will count toward your monthly data plan.
Steps
Sharing Wi-Fi Connection on an iPhone



Tap on Personal Hotspot (Personal Access Point). This option is located near the top of the Settings page, just below Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Slide the Personal Hotspot toggle to the "On" position on the right.

- Tap on Wi-Fi Password to change the password for your iPhone's hotspot.

Click on the Wi-Fi icon on your computer. It is the signal bars located at the bottom right of the Windows screen or at the top right of the Mac screen.
- On Windows, you may need to click the ^ icon on your screen to reveal the Wi-Fi icon.

Click on the iPhone's name. You will see the iPhone's name appear in the displayed Wi-Fi window.
- On Windows, click Connect in the bottom right corner of the Wi-Fi window to proceed.

Enter the iPhone's hotspot password. This password is displayed next to the "Wi-Fi Password" label in the middle of the Personal Hotspot screen on the iPhone.

Click on Next on Windows or Join on Mac. When you enter the correct password, your computer will immediately connect to the iPhone's hotspot.
Sharing Connection via USB on iPhone

Connect your iPhone to the computer. You will need to use the iPhone's USB charging cable for this step.



Tap on Personal Hotspot (Personal Access Point). This option is located near the top of the Settings page, just below Cellular (or Mobile Data).
Slide the Personal Hotspot toggle to the "On" position on the right.

Sharing Wi-Fi Connection on Android

Open the Settings app on your Android device. It is the app with the gear icon, typically found in the App Drawer.

Tap on More (More). This option is located under the "Wireless & networks" section near the top of the Settings page.
- On Samsung devices, tap Connections.

Tap on Tethering & portable hotspot (Tethering and Portable Hotspot). This option is located near the middle of the screen.
- On Samsung devices, tap Mobile HotSpot and Tethering.

Tap on Set up mobile hotspot (Set up Mobile Hotspot). This option is at the top of the page.
- On Samsung devices, tap Mobile Hotspot, then tap the ⋮ icon in the top-right corner, and select Configure Mobile HotSpot.

Set up a hotspot on your Android device. To do this, you need to enter the following information:
- Network name - This is the name displayed for the hotspot in the network management section on your computer.
- Security - Select WPA2 from the dropdown menu.
- Password - The password you wish to set for the connection.

Tap on Save (Save). This option is located at the bottom right of the Wi-Fi Hotspot window.
Slide the toggle next to OFF to the "On" position on the right. This toggle is located at the top of the screen. After this step, the Android hotspot will be enabled.

Click the Wi-Fi icon on your computer. It's the icon with curved lines located at the bottom right corner of your Windows screen or the top right corner of your Mac screen.
- On Windows, you may need to click the ^ icon on the screen to see the Wi-Fi icon.

Click on the network name of your phone. This is the name you entered earlier.

Enter the password for the personal hotspot that you set earlier.

Click on Next on Windows or Join on Mac. Once you enter the correct password, your computer will connect to the Android hotspot.
Share connection via USB on Android

Connect your Android device to the computer. You will need to use the Android charging cable for this process.

Open the Android Settings app. This is the gear icon usually found in the App Drawer.

Tap on More (Other). This option appears beneath the 'Wireless & networks' heading.
- On Samsung devices, tap on Connections here.

Tap on Tethering & portable hotspot (Connection sharing and mobile hotspot). This option is located near the top of the page.
- On Samsung devices, tap on Tethering and Mobile HotSpot here.

Slide the USB tethering switch to the 'ON' position on the right. After this action, you'll notice a USB symbol with a diagonal line and three arrows in the top-left corner of your screen, and your computer will recognize the phone as a wireless internet connection.
Tip
- When sharing a wireless connection, keep your phone within 3 meters of the computer for optimal performance.
- If you cannot find the connection sharing option in your phone's settings, contact your service provider to enable this feature—it may require authorization before it becomes accessible.

- Monitor your monthly data usage, as exceeding the set limit may incur additional charges.
