iTunes is a media library and synchronization tool specifically designed for iOS devices like iPhones, iPads, and iPods. You can easily sync your content to your iOS device using either Windows or OS X. Connecting your device to iTunes allows you to effortlessly add music, movies, and more.
Steps
Connecting the Device

Make sure iTunes is updated to the latest version. If you're using an outdated version of iTunes, you may experience connection issues. Updating iTunes is free of charge, but you must be connected to the internet to download the latest version.
- Windows – Click on Help → Check for Updates
- OS X – Click on iTunes → Check for Updates

Connect the device using a USB port. Use the USB cable provided with your iPod, iPad, or iPhone to connect to the USB port on your computer. Plug it directly into the computer's port; if you plug it into a USB hub (which adds extra ports to your computer for connecting more peripherals), it might not provide enough power.
- iTunes supports a variety of MP3 players in addition to iOS devices. In some cases, you may not be able to sync all music files to non-iOS devices.

Set up the device. The program will prompt you to set up the device when connecting it to iTunes for the first time. You have two options: "Setup as New" or "Restore from Backup". Even if you've used the phone before connecting to iTunes, it's still best to choose "Setup as New". While this will erase all content, the program will ask you to name the device.

Select the device. The device name will appear in the left sidebar under the 'Devices' section. If you don't see the device list, click View → Hide Sidebar.
- If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, you may need to put it in Recovery Mode.
Sync Content

Add files to the iTunes library. To add files to your device, you need to first add them to the iTunes library. You can add music, photos, movies, apps, podcasts, TV shows, and books. Refer to this guide for detailed instructions on adding files to the library.
- All content purchased from the iTunes store will automatically be added to the library.

Select the content you want to sync. Choose your device from the left sidebar. A row of tabs will appear at the top of the screen displaying different content types that can be added to the device. Scroll through the tabs and pick the content you wish to add to your device.
- You can add all content, or just specific files that you prefer.
- Available storage is shown at the bottom of the screen. As you add synced files, this bar will fill up.

Click on the 'Summary' tab, then click on the Sync button at the bottom of the window. iTunes will begin copying the selected content to your device. Files that are not present in iTunes will be removed from the device.
- You can track the syncing process at the top of the iTunes window.

Disconnect the device. Once the syncing process is complete, right-click on the device in the left sidebar and select Eject. This will allow you to safely disconnect your device. If you don't select Eject before unplugging, there is a risk of data corruption, although the likelihood is low.

Back up your device. iTunes allows you to create a backup of your iOS device in case of potential issues. To back up your device, select the device name in the left sidebar, click on the 'Summary' tab, and locate the 'Backups' section. Choose where you want to back up your files (either on your computer or iCloud), then click on Back Up Now.
- Backing up to iCloud will only save critical settings. However, choosing to back up to your computer will store all files locally.
