Many modern car stereo systems are designed to work with iPhones, allowing you to enjoy music or use your phone hands-free while driving. The process of connecting your iPhone to your car's audio system is straightforward and can be done in just a few moments.
Steps
Connect via Bluetooth

Check your car's Bluetooth connectivity. Refer to your car's manual to determine if the car's head unit supports Bluetooth. You can also look for the Bluetooth logo (the butterfly-shaped icon) on the stereo system. If you see this symbol, it means the vehicle's entertainment system is Bluetooth-enabled.

Activate Bluetooth Pairing Mode on your car's stereo system. Press the menu button on your stereo to find the Bluetooth pairing option. If you're unsure how to enable Bluetooth in your car, refer to the vehicle's user manual for guidance.

Turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone. By default, Bluetooth is usually turned off to conserve battery life. You can enable Bluetooth on your iPhone in several ways:
- Go to the Settings app, select 'Bluetooth', and toggle the Bluetooth switch on.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap the Bluetooth icon to turn it on.

Select your car's audio system from the list of available Bluetooth devices on your iPhone. As long as the car's stereo is in pairing mode, it will appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices. The option may display the car's stereo name or something similar to 'CAR_MEDIA'.

Enter the Bluetooth password on your iPhone if prompted. If your car's stereo requires a passcode to connect, the code will appear on the device's screen during the pairing process. You will also be prompted to enter the code on your iPhone. Enter the code to complete the connection.

Play music or make a call. Open your iPhone's music app and start playing music through the car's entertainment system. When making or receiving a call, the car's speakers will function just like your iPhone's, allowing you to hear the other party without holding the phone.
Connecting via Audio Auxiliary Cable

Check if your stereo system has an auxiliary input port. Look at the front panel of your car's head unit and search for a mm audio jack (similar to the headphone port on an iPhone). Car stereos often come with auxiliary ports to connect MP3 players, smartphones, and other audio devices.
- If you're unsure or can't locate the auxiliary port, refer to your car's manual for more details.

Prepare the auxiliary audio cable. This is a cable with a mm jack at both ends, allowing you to connect any audio device to an electronics device with an auxiliary port. You can purchase this cable at electronics stores, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 VND.

Plug the headphone jack of your iPhone into the auxiliary port of your stereo system using the cable. Insert one end of the audio cable into your iPhone’s headphone jack and the other end into the auxiliary port on your car's entertainment system.

Set your stereo system to Auxiliary (AUX) mode. Press the menu button on your stereo and switch to AUX mode so the system can receive audio from your iPhone.
- If you're not sure how to switch your car stereo to Auxiliary mode, check your car's manual for specific instructions.

Play music or make a call. Open your iPhone's music app and start playing music through your car’s entertainment system. When making or receiving a call, the car’s speakers will function just like your iPhone’s, allowing you to hear the other party without needing to hold the phone.
Connecting via USB Lightning Cable

Check if your car's stereo supports iPhone connectivity. Look for a USB port on the front panel of your car’s head unit (similar to the one on a computer). Many modern cars are equipped with USB ports that allow music playback from a flash drive.
- Consult your car stereo's manual to confirm whether the system supports iPhone connection. This connection allows you to plug your iPhone directly into the car’s stereo using the Lightning/data cable that comes with your phone. Not all cars have USB ports that support iPhone connections, so be sure to check the car manual first.
- Newer vehicles may have entertainment systems with CarPlay, which provides an advanced method to connect your iPhone to the car using a Lightning USB cable.

Connect your iPhone to your car’s stereo system. Plug one end of the Lightning/data cable into the port at the bottom of your iPhone. The other end should be plugged into the USB port on the stereo system.

Set your car's stereo to iPhone/USB mode. Press the menu button on your stereo and select the USB or iPhone mode. This will allow your car's stereo to receive data from your iPhone. Most car stereos will automatically switch to iPhone or USB mode when the iPhone is connected.
- If your vehicle’s infotainment system supports CarPlay, you can select the CarPlay feature from the menu once your iPhone is connected.
- Consult the car manual for further instructions on how to switch the stereo to USB or iPhone mode if you're unsure.

Play music or make a call. Open the music app on your iPhone and start enjoying music through your car's entertainment system. When making or receiving calls, the car's speakers will function just like your iPhone’s speakers, allowing you to hear the other party without holding the phone.
- CarPlay’s infotainment center offers many features beyond just playing music and making calls. You can explore online to learn more about the full range of options.
Tips
- If your car's head unit doesn't support any of the three connection methods mentioned above, you may want to consider upgrading the stereo system.
- Visit the manufacturer's website for your car's head unit and download the owner's manual for the stereo system if you no longer have the physical manual.
