Today, Mytour will guide you on how to connect your Windows PC to the internet. You can either use your PC’s Wi-Fi menu to establish a wireless connection or directly connect your computer to an internet source via an Ethernet cable. Note: connecting to the internet differs from setting up a wired computer network, such as an office LAN.
Steps
Using Wi-Fi

Ensure that the network is operational. To connect to the internet, the modem must be connected to an internet source (e.g., a cable port), the router must be linked to the modem, and both the modem and router should be powered on.
- Some modems come integrated with a router.
- You can check the internet connection status by observing the indicator lights on the modem or router. If the connection seems unstable, you may want to use an Ethernet cable instead of relying on Wi-Fi.

Turn on Wi-Fi if needed. If you see the message "Wi-Fi Turned off" at the top of the dropdown menu, click on the Wi-Fi option at the bottom-left of the menu before continuing.

Select the wireless network name. Click on the wireless network you wish to connect to. Network information will expand.
- If you can't find the network, you may need to move closer to the router/modem.
- The network name often includes the router/modem's name, model number, and manufacturer (if the network hasn't been set up already).

Click on Connect (Connect). This option appears below the expanded network name in the dropdown menu.

Enter the network password. Type the network password into the text box that appears.
- If you haven’t changed the network password from the factory default settings, look for the password on the label usually found on the bottom or back of the router (or combined modem and router device).
- If the network has no password, your computer will connect to the internet once you click Connect in the previous step.

Click on Next (Next) below the password field. The password will be entered, and your computer will begin to connect to the network.
- If the password is incorrect, you’ll be prompted to enter it again.

Wait for the connection to complete. Once your computer has successfully connected to the network, the status "Connected" will appear under the network name. At this point, you can start using the internet on your PC.
Using an Ethernet Cable

Ensure that the network is active. To connect to the internet, the network modem must be connected to the internet source (e.g., cable port), and the router must be linked to the modem, with both devices powered on.
- There are also modem-router combination devices available on the market.
- If you don’t need internet access for wireless devices or users on the network, you can connect the computer directly to the modem instead of using a router.

Buy an Ethernet cable if you don’t have one yet. An Ethernet cable is used to connect network devices (e.g., computer or router) to the modem or connected router. You can purchase Ethernet cables at most electronics stores or online marketplaces like Lazada, Tiki, etc.
- Make sure to buy a long enough Ethernet cable to connect from the router/modem to your computer if it’s stationary.
- The length of the Ethernet cable should not exceed 100 meters (90 meters is the most common effective maximum length).

Locate an available Ethernet port on the router/modem. The Ethernet port is square and located on the back of the router and modem. The port you can use on the router is usually labeled "Internet" or "Ethernet" either above or beside the port. The router may have multiple Ethernet ports.
- The modem usually has just one "Internet" port used for connecting to the router.
- If you are connecting the computer directly to the modem on a network that uses a separate router, make sure to disconnect the router from the modem’s Ethernet port before continuing.

Locate your computer’s Ethernet port. Find the square-shaped Ethernet port on your computer. If your computer has an Ethernet port, it may be located on one of the sides of the body (for laptops) or on the back of the tower (for desktop computers).
- If your computer does not have an Ethernet port, you’ll need to purchase a USB-to-Ethernet adapter for your device.

Connect your computer to the router/modem. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into an available port on the router or modem, then connect the other end to your computer’s Ethernet port.
- The ends of the Ethernet cable are interchangeable, so you can connect either end to your computer or router.
- If your PC lacks an Ethernet port, plug the USB end of the Ethernet adapter you purchased into a USB port on the computer, and then connect your computer to the router or modem.
Wait for your computer to establish an internet connection.
Tips
- If you’re aiming for the most stable and fastest internet connection, Ethernet is the way to go. This connection type is especially ideal for gaming on your PC.
- Most Wi-Fi issues can be resolved by simply restarting your computer. If the computer is having trouble connecting due to software issues, restarting is often the easiest fix.
Warning
- If the network hardware (such as the router, modem, cables, etc.) is not functioning properly, you may not be able to connect to your desired network.
- Avoid entering sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card details, when using any network that does not display the "Secured" status beneath its name.
