Today, Mytour will guide you through the steps to download and convert Audible audiobook files. Since Audible employs digital rights management (DRM) protection for its audiobooks, standard audio conversion software won't suffice. You'll need to purchase a program to remove the DRM protection before converting the files. Additionally, ensure you have iTunes installed on your computer to locate and manage the audiobook files.
Steps
Download to a Windows Computer

Install iTunes if you don't already have it. iTunes is one of the few programs capable of handling Audible audiobooks, and it will also help you locate the downloaded Audible files.
- Most Audible conversion software requires iTunes to be installed.

Search for Audible. Click on the search bar located at the top right corner of the Store window, type audible, and press ↵ Enter.

Click on Get. This blue button is located on the left side of the Store window. Audible for Windows will begin downloading.

Click on Launch when the option appears. This button will replace the Get button on the previous Store window. The Audible login page will open.

Log in to your Amazon account. Click on Sign in, enter the email address and password associated with your Amazon account, and then click Sign in.

Download the Audible book. Click the downward arrow in the lower-left corner of the audiobook icon and select Not now if prompted to play the book. The book will begin downloading to your computer.

Click the ⋯ icon in the lower-right corner of the book's icon. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click on Import into iTunes. This option is located near the bottom of the dropdown menu. The audiobook will be added to your iTunes library, and you can now proceed with converting the audiobook.
Download to a Mac Computer

Open Audible. Visit https://www.audible.com/home using your computer's web browser. Your Audible homepage will open if you're already logged in.
- If you're not logged in, click Sign in at the top-right corner of the page and enter your email address and password when prompted.

Select the Library tab at the top of the page. A dropdown menu will appear when you hover over this option.

Click on My Books. This option is located within the dropdown menu.

Find the book you want to download. A list of your audiobook titles will appear on the page.

Click on DOWNLOAD. This black button is located to the right of the audiobook title. The book will begin downloading to your computer.

Authorize your Mac if prompted. If a pop-up window asks for authorization to access Audible, click Yes, then log in to your Audible account using your Amazon credentials and click the link Click here to complete your activation!. You will then be able to access your Audible audiobooks on iTunes.
Convert

Purchase and install audio conversion software capable of removing DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection. Unfortunately, there is no reliable and free method to remove DRM protection from Audible files. While many audio conversion programs offer free trials, you will eventually need to purchase the full version to convert entire books. Some programs that can remove DRM protection on both Windows and Mac include:
- TuneFab
- DRMare Audio Converter
- Noteburner iTunes DRM Audio Converter

Open iTunes. Double-click the iTunes application icon, which features a multicolored musical note on a white background.

Open the Audiobooks page. Click the dropdown menu at the top-left corner of the iTunes window (usually labeled Music), then select Audiobooks from the dropdown menu. Your iTunes audiobook library will open.

Locate your audiobook file on your computer.
- On Windows — Right-click the audiobook name, then choose Show in Windows Explorer from the dropdown menu.
- On Mac — Click the audiobook name, then select File and choose Show in Finder from the dropdown menu.

the file and paste it onto your desktop. This makes it easier to locate:
- Click to select the audiobook file.
- Press Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac) to copy the file.
- Go to your desktop and click on an empty space.
- Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Command+V (Mac) to paste the file onto your desktop.

Open the Audible conversion software. Double-click the application icon you downloaded and installed earlier.
- If you haven't purchased the full version, you may need to log in or register with payment details before proceeding.

Select the Audible file. Click Browse or Open in the software window, then choose the audio file from the Desktop folder and click Open.
- In some cases, you may need to drag and drop the audiobook file into the conversion software window.
- By default, the software may automatically detect audiobooks. If supported, click the Audiobooks tab and locate your file.

Select the output audio format. After adding your Audible audiobook file to the conversion program, locate the conversion settings and choose your desired audio format. In most cases, the MP3 format is preferred.
- AAC is another commonly used format, though it has limited platform support.

Convert the audiobook. Click OK or Convert to start transforming the audiobook file into MP3 (or AAC) format. Once the conversion is complete, you can play the audiobook as a standard audio file on most media players.
- This process may take several hours for lengthy audiobooks, so ensure your computer is fully charged or plugged in.
Tips
- iTunes, Windows Media Player, and Windows 10 Audible can play all Audible audiobooks without requiring conversion. You can also download the Audible app for iPhone and Android to listen to books anytime, anywhere. The rare case where you might need to convert an audiobook into an unprotected file is when burning it to a disc or transferring it to an older MP3 player.

- Removing DRM protection is illegal, even if you do not share the file with anyone.
