Corn is one of those ingredients that can be prepared in various ways. Whole corn can be boiled, microwaved, grilled, steamed, or roasted over an open flame, while corn kernels are typically boiled, steamed, or microwaved. Below are instructions for preparing corn using the methods mentioned:
Ingredients
4 servings
- 4 whole ears of corn OR 2 cups of frozen corn kernels
- Water
- Butter, pepper, and salt (to taste)
Steps
Boil Fresh Corn on the Cob

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. While waiting for the water to heat up, peel the husk and remove the silk from the corn.
- The amount of water needed depends on the size of the corn cobs. Make sure the water is enough to fully submerge the corn.
- You can add a teaspoon of salt to the water, but this step is optional.
- To peel the husk, firmly hold the corn by the stem. Then, pull the husk downwards, removing the outer layers. Use your hands to completely strip the husk off.
- Rinse the peeled corn under cold water. Scrub along the cob to soften and remove any remaining silk.

Place the corn in the boiling water. Cover the pot and bring it back to a boil.
- Use tongs to carefully lower the corn into the pot. Avoid using your hands to prevent burns.
- If the water slows down or stops boiling after adding the corn, wait for the water to start boiling again before starting the cooking time.

Boil for about 3-8 minutes. The corn should be "tender yet crisp".
- "Tender yet crisp" means that when pressed, the corn should be soft but not mushy.
- The boiling time varies depending on the type of corn and whether you’re boiling young or mature ears. Younger corn and American varieties typically cook the fastest.

Remove the corn and enjoy. Place the corn on a paper towel and let it drain for 30-60 seconds before serving.
- The freshly boiled corn will be very hot, so allow it to cool a bit before eating.
- Boiled corn is often served with a little butter on top.
Microwave Corn on the Cob

Place the corn on a microwave-safe plate. It’s best to cook one cob of corn at a time.
- Do not remove the husk. The corn will taste better when cooked in the microwave with the husk on.

Microwave the corn for about 5 minutes. Use the High Power or Full Power setting (maximum power).Stay away from the microwave for the first 1-2 minutes to avoid being burned by the steam.

Remove the corn from the microwave. Use a sharp knife to cut off the stalk.
- For safety, use oven mitts or a towel to take the corn out of the microwave.
- When cutting the corn, make sure to remove the first row of kernels completely and cut through the husk entirely.

Peel off the husk and enjoy your corn. Use kitchen gloves or a towel to hold the top of the cob that hasn’t been cut. Gently shake to release the corn from the husk.
- The corn should come off the husk easily. Typically, some silk may still be attached inside the husk.
- Enjoy your microwave corn with butter and salt or any seasoning of your choice.

Steamed Corn on the Cob

Boil water in a steamer pot. While waiting for the water to boil, peel the husks and silk off the corn.
- If you don't have a steamer pot, you can use a large pot and a metal colander with holes. Ensure the colander fits properly over the pot without the holes being submerged below halfway.
- To peel, grip the stalk and pull the husk down from the top towards the base. Use your hands to tear off any remaining husk.
- Rinse the corn under cold water, gently rubbing it to remove most of the silk.

Place the corn in the steamer basket. Steam for 8-12 minutes.
- Use tongs to transfer the corn into the steamer basket. Avoid using your hands to prevent burns.
- The steaming time depends on the corn's maturity. Young corn will cook faster than older corn.
- If the kernels are soft but not mushy, the corn is ready.

Enjoy while it's still warm. Remove the corn from the steamer and let it cool for 2-3 minutes before serving.
- Add butter and salt if desired.
Grilled Corn on the Cob over Flame

Boiling Corn Kernels

Bring water to a boil in a medium-sized pot. While waiting for the water to boil, prepare the corn kernels.
- You may add a teaspoon of salt to the water if desired (optional).
- The corn kernels should be thawed before cooking.
- Canned corn kernels can be used in place of frozen ones. Canned corn will cook much faster than frozen corn. Additionally, canned corn should be drained before boiling.

Add the corn kernels to the boiling water. After adding the corn, if the water slows down or stops boiling, allow it to return to a boil before reducing the heat.

Cover and cook. Frozen corn kernels need to boil for 5-10 minutes. Once cooked, remove and drain.
- Canned corn only needs 1-3 minutes of boiling.
- The corn should be hot, soft but not mushy.

Enjoy according to your preference. Note: Do not freeze boiled corn kernels.
- If desired, you can mix the cooked corn kernels with butter, salt, and black pepper. Alternatively, try other seasonings like parsley, depending on your taste.
Steamed Corn Kernels

Bring water to a gentle simmer in the steamer pot. Pour water into the steamer and heat it over medium heat until it starts to simmer and produce steam.
- Do not allow the water to boil vigorously.
- The water level should not be too high and must not touch the steamer basket.
- If you don't have a steamer, you can use a large pot and a metal colander with holes. Make sure the colander fits securely over the pot's rim.

Place frozen corn kernels in the steamer basket. Spread the kernels out in a single layer without overlapping them.
- Canned corn can also be used, but it will steam faster. Steamed corn should be soft and juicy.
- There is no need to thaw frozen corn before steaming.

Steam for 9-10 minutes. Steam the corn uncovered for 9-10 minutes. Once done, remove the corn and drain any excess water.
- Canned corn only needs 3-4 minutes to steam.

Serve and enjoy. Steamed corn can be served with butter, salt, and any other desired seasonings.
Microwave Corn Kernels

Place the corn kernels on a microwave-safe plate. Spread them evenly in a single layer.
- You can use canned corn, but the microwave time and method may vary slightly.
- There is no need to thaw frozen corn before microwaving.

Add 2-4 tablespoons of water to the plate. Stir the water and corn kernels together until they are evenly mixed.
- This step is only necessary when using frozen corn. For canned corn, no extra water is required, but ensure the kernels are drained before microwaving.

Cover the plate with plastic wrap. Use a fork to puncture a few small holes in the wrap to allow airflow.
- Make sure to use microwave-safe plastic wrap.
- If your plate has a lid, you can use that instead of the plastic wrap. Just ensure it's not sealed too tightly so that air can still circulate.

Microwave for 4-5 minutes. For canned corn, microwave for just 1-2 minutes.
- Microwave time may vary depending on the wattage of your microwave. A lower-powered microwave will take longer to cook.
- Stop microwaving when you hear popping sounds coming from the corn.

Ngô Nguyên lõi Nướng than

Sử dụng đủ than để nướng khoảng 1 tiếng.

Peel the corn.

Season with butter, salt, and pepper. Serve while still hot.
