Links to articles or websites enhance the richness of online content and optimize search engine results. You can refer to any website by copying and pasting its link into emails, messages, or documents. The steps may vary slightly depending on the type of computer, device, or software you're using. If the URL is too long, consider using a URL shortening service.
Steps
Windows and Mac

Find the link you want to copy. You can copy links from websites, emails, Word documents, and many other programs.
- Links in websites or emails are often underlined and displayed in a different color than surrounding text. Many links may also appear as buttons or images.

Right-click the link. If the link is an image, right-click the image and you'll see the option to Copy.
- If you're using a Mac, simply click the left mouse button, hold the Ctrl key and click to bring up the right-click menu.

Select "Copy link". Once the link is copied, it is stored in the clipboard and can be pasted anywhere. The clipboard can only store one link at a time. The naming of this option may slightly vary depending on the program you're using. Below are some common examples:
- Chrome - "Copy link address"
- Firefox - "Copy Link Location"
- Internet Explorer - "Copy shortcut"
- Safari - "Copy Link"
- Word - "Copy Hyperlink"

Hover the mouse over the location where you want to paste the link. After copying the link, you can paste it anywhere. Click on the place where you want to insert the link.
- You can paste the link anywhere that allows text input, such as in an email, Word document, web browser address bar, Facebook chat, etc.

Paste the link. There are multiple ways to paste the copied link:
- Right-click the location where the cursor is and select "Paste".
- Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+V (Mac).
- If there's an Edit menu (if available), click it and choose "Paste". Note that not all programs display the Edit menu.

Paste the link as a hyperlink with different text. Some programs, such as blogs, emails, and word processors, allow you to change the displayed text instead of leaving the link address as is. This way, you can create a link with custom text:
- Place the cursor at the location where you want the hyperlink to appear.
- Click the "Insert Hyperlink" button. This option may be located under the text template section or in the Insert menu (word processors). It usually has a chain link icon.
- Enter the desired display text in the "Text to display" field. This will be the text shown as a clickable link.
- Paste the link into the "Address", "URL", or "Link to" field. Click on the field and press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Cmd+V (Mac) to paste the copied link.

Copy and paste the address from the address bar. If you want to share or save the webpage you're viewing, you can copy the web address from the browser's address bar:
- Click on the address in the browser. You'll see the full address even if part of it is hidden while browsing.
- Select the entire web address. Usually, it will be automatically highlighted when you click on it. If not, press Ctrl/⌘ Cmd+A to select all.
- Copy the selected address by right-clicking and choosing "Copy" or by pressing Ctrl/⌘ Cmd+C.
- Place the cursor where you want to paste the link and press Ctrl/⌘ Cmd+V.
Mobile device

Locate the link you want to copy. You can copy links from a web browser, email, and many other applications. Links can appear as traditional text or image links.
- The process will vary depending on the mobile device you're using (Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, etc.)

Press and hold the link you want to copy. Once you've found the link, press and hold until a new menu appears. You may need to wait a moment for the menu to show up.

Tap on the "Copy" option. The name of this option may change depending on the app you're using. Look for something similar to the following examples:
- Copy
- Copy link address
- Copy link URL
- Copy address

Place the cursor where you want to paste the link. After copying the link, you can paste it into any text field. Tap on the text area to bring up the cursor.

Press and hold your finger on the cursor. Wait for a moment, then release. A new menu will appear.
- If you're using an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), release your finger once the magnifying glass icon appears.
- If you're on an Android device, release your finger when the indicators appear below the cursor.

Select "Paste" to insert the copied link. You will find the "Paste" option in the menu. Tap "Paste" to insert the copied address into the text field.

Copy and paste a link from a message (Android). If you receive a message containing a link on your Android device, you may need to take additional steps to copy the link, especially if it contains other text. Not all Android messaging apps work the same way:
- Press and hold the message with the link.
- Tap the "Copy" button that appears. Many apps show an icon of two stacked pages instead of the word "Copy".
- Paste the copied text in the desired location and remove any unnecessary text from the original message.
