Today's guide will show you how to select, copy text or images, and then paste them elsewhere on your Chromebook (a device running Chrome OS).
Steps
Using Keyboard Shortcuts
Select the content. Use the touchpad to highlight the text or content you wish to copy.
Press Control + C. This action will copy the content to the clipboard on your Chromebook.
Navigate to the desired location where you want to insert the content. Move to the spot or document where you'd like to paste your copied content.
Click on the place where you want to paste the content. Position your cursor at the location where the content should be inserted.
Press Control + V. The copied content will be pasted at your desired location.
Right-click menu usage
Select the content. Click at the beginning of the text you want to copy, then drag your cursor to the end to highlight the portion you wish to copy.
Right-click on the content. A menu will appear.
- To right-click on a touchpad, hold the Alt key and click with the left button of the touchpad (Alt + click) or tap with two fingers simultaneously on the touchpad.
- If you've connected an external mouse to your Chromebook, click the right mouse button to open the right-click menu.
Click on the Copy option located near the top of the menu.
Navigate to the location where you want to insert the content. Move to the position or document where you'd like to paste the copied content.
Right-click at the location where you want to insert. Another menu will appear.
- To right-click on a touchpad, hold the Alt key and click with the left button of the touchpad (Alt + click) or tap with two fingers on the touchpad simultaneously.
- If you've connected an external mouse to your Chromebook, press the right button on the mouse to open the right-click menu.
Click on the Paste option near the top of the menu. By doing so, the copied content will be pasted into the selected location.
Use the menu command
Highlight the content. Use the touchpad to highlight the content you wish to copy.
Click the ⋮ button located in the upper right corner of the window.
Click the Copy option located near the bottom of the menu, just to the right of the 'Edit' option.
Navigate to the location where you want to paste the content. Move to the spot or document where you'd like to insert the text.
Click on the location where you want to insert the content. Position your cursor at the spot where you wish to paste the content.
Click on the ⋮ button located at the top-right corner of the window.
Select the Paste option located near the bottom of the menu, just to the right of the "Edit" option.
Copy and paste an image

Advice
- Press the Ctrl+Alt+? key combination to open the list of all Chromebook keyboard shortcuts. If you're new to using a Chromebook, this guide will be very helpful until you become familiar with the keyboard shortcuts.
- You can also press Ctrl+X to cut text or images.
- Hold your finger on the touchpad and drag to highlight the text you want to copy. Then, use two fingers to tap on the touchpad, and a menu will appear. Select "Copy", then go to the location where you want to paste the content. Tap two fingers on the touchpad again and choose the paste option.
