You can send the same message to multiple friends on Facebook. Essentially, this creates a group chat where you can converse with several people at once. You have the option to create a chat group both on the Facebook website and through the mobile app.
Steps
Using Messenger
Log in to the Messenger app with your Facebook account. Messaging on the Facebook app itself is not possible; you must use the Messenger app. Messages sent through Messenger can be read on both the Messenger app and the main Facebook site.
Click on the "New Message" button. On Android, tap the "+" symbol at the bottom right corner and select "Write Message." On iOS, tap the "New Message" option with the paper and pencil icon at the top right corner.
Add a person to the conversation. Start typing the name of the person you'd like to chat with. As you type, matching results from your contacts will appear below. Select the person you want to add.
Add more people to create a group chat. After adding the first person, continue typing to add the second one. You can tap on results to add more participants until your group is complete.
Type the message you want to send to the group. Once you've added all your recipients, tap the "Write a message" field and start composing. You can also tap on various options above the text field to attach media like images, emojis, gifs, etc.
Once satisfied, send the message. Tap the "Send" button when you're ready. On Android, the Send button is represented by a paper plane icon. All group members will receive your message, and any replies will be shared with the whole group.
Change the group chat name. Messenger allows you to rename your group chat, not just the recipient list. The process differs slightly between Android and iOS:
- Android – Open the group chat and tap the ⓘ icon in the top right corner. Tap the ⋮ icon and select "Change name." Enter the new name for the group chat.
- iOS – Open the group chat and tap the current name at the top of the screen. Tap "Edit" in the top right corner, then select "Change name." Enter the new name for the group chat.
Use Facebook's website
Log in to the Facebook website with your account. Make sure you're logged into the correct account that you want to send the group message from.
Click on the "New Message" button at the bottom right, just below your online friends list. If this list is minimized, you can still find the "New Message" button in the minimized chat window.
- If you'd like to add someone to an existing conversation, click the gear icon in the chat window's corner, then choose "Add Friends to Chat."
Add the people you want to chat with. Type the names of the people you'd like to add to the group chat. You can select them from the list of matching results as you type. You can add as many people as you'd like to the chat.
- If you want to remove someone you've added, click the "X" next to their name in the "To:" field.
Compose a message. You can type the message you'd like to send to the group in the text field. Tap the smiley icon to insert an emoji or attach a file from your computer using the paperclip icon.
Send the message. Press ↵ Enter/⏎ Return to send the message to your recipients. A group conversation will be created, and anyone on the selected list will be able to view replies from group members.
